Show GOLDEN Volume VIII November 22 1988 COLLEGE OF EASTERN UTAH PRICE UTAH Choir officers Doug Barker Arn Forsyth and Maugto Guymon go over the concert program with members of the band Fall concert set at piay The fall concert is free of charge and open to the pubic a a public service of the College of Eastern Utah in enriching the cultural life of the communities of Eastern Utah Thursday evening November 21 at 8 o'clock in the Geary Theater The fall concert will feature the Concert Band and the Concert Choir The November 21st concert will be the first concert of the year at CEU and will be an entertaining treat to music patrons of the area The program of worthy music is designed to catch the ear of all music lover The college choir will perform sacred and secular selections from outstanding choral literature The program will include: “Sing all Ye Lands" by Grctchaninoff "Yea Thou I Wander” by Schumann "The Lord is My Shepherd" arr by Black "Bread of Tears" by Paul Christiansen and "Praise the Lord" with Soundin Cymbals by Royal Stanton The concert choir is directed hy Frank Post-m- a chairman of the Humanities Division The CEU Concert Band program will include overtures marches and exciting hard music that is programed for the Inenjoyment of the listener cluded on the program will he "His Honor March" hy Fillmore ‘Overture for Winds" hy Carter "Entree" hy Bach "Praelud-ium- " by Jarncfclt a Herb Tijuana Brass selection and a recent bard arrangement of the "Halleluiah Chorus" by Handel The coiccrl hand this season is directed hy Derral Siggard who recently was ap- pointed director of bands at C-E- rt U Featured on the choir program will be a ladies double trio consisting of Diana Craig Terri Neeley Brenda Iitster Carol Pace 1 nrna (inkling Jnn-i-s O'Green Ann Forsyth Caro-la- n Postma Ann Passey and Ignore Potter ns nrcompanist A two piano team Janis Sig- - Yeu'll have-"T- ho Time cf your Life" soon at the Geary Theatre November 21 gard and Dorthy Bunnell will Triana by Albeniz The College of Eastern Utah will present two of its fine musical organizations in concert Al-pe- CEU Howto be popular cn C E U campus Here are some tips to help you find your way to popularity on the college campus BE ALERT— Show interest in your school work as well as your social activities BE NEAT— Be neat in dress as well as your written assignments By being neat you indicate that you arc an orderly person BE PROMPT— If you are late to class hand in your assignments late and arc late for appointments you may he late when it comes time to “pass out the honors” It always pays to be on time NUMBER 5 Personal CEU throws development a pot party Personal development class has had two visitors they would like to boast of The first Mrs Dorothy Carver came to class with a box full of scarves all sizes and all colors She gave the class many hints and tips on wearing scarves She also used the girls for her models She stated that she makes many of her own scarves The second visitor was a young lady from Dragertnn She gave a facial using Kayla Hanna as her model Incidentally this young lady was one of the 10 Finalists in Maryland in the Mis Teen-AgAmerica contest Girls! Spring quarter take Personal Development from Mrs Earlene MacKnight e Pot parties are going on everywhere these days and CEU has its own special brand of "pot" party every week Where is such an unusual event as this going on? The place is Mr Young’s ceramics room in the Art building Twice weekly some nine students experiment with clay to throw all types sizes and shapes of pots There are two ways in which to create a pot The first is to build the piece by hand using slabs coils or large pieces of clay The second is to take a ball of clay and throw a pot on the wheel These thrown pots are lighter and more delicate They have a spun smooth effect while hand built pieces are heavy and sturdier than the oth- er pieces Peace corps loan fund set up When the pots are dried they are placed In a kiln and Fired Establishment of a higher ucation loan fund for returned Peace Corps Volunteers was announced recently by Peace Corps Director Jack Vaughn The fund started with private money raised by members of the Peace Corps’ National Advisory Council makes a half million dollars available in loans to former Volunteers Each may borrow up to $7500 Admiristrator of the fund is the United Student Aid Funds Inc 845 Third Ave New York N Y 10002 Inquiries should he sent there Two in every five of the more than 25000 returned Volunteers continue their education after Peace Corps service most of them on the graduate level Vaughn says ed- for approximately eleven hours After the pots are cooled they are glazed Following the glazing process the pots are again fired for another eleven hours The finished product may turn out to be a handsome jar or flower pot or pitcher Interested in seeing what really goes on?
