Show GOLDEN Friday February 2 1968 EAGLE Pace Three r Last Saturday it might have looked to a passerby as though CEU was being invaded by Martians but this wasn’t the case It was just students from 45 different schools throughout the state that were attending the annual CEU Speech Tournament Approximately 1200 students were vying for winning positions in the fields of Debate Dramatic Reading Extemporaneous Humorous Reading Speaking Legislative Forum and Oratory All participating schools were divided into either class A or B competition in accordance with their size Class A debate divisional champions were Dean Taylor and David Eckersley Hillcrest Mike Blackburn and Brett Richards Ogden and Paulette Hyer and Gerri Weeks Provo In class B competition John Spatafore and Danielle Welsh of Notre Dame captured the first place rating in debate In Dramatic Reading winners in the class A division were Dcbie Shields Highland 1st place Mitch Beauchaine South 2nd place and Alan Giles Ogden 3rd place Holly Walker from St Francis took 1st place in the class B division whereas Kim Burton of Uintah was awarded 2nd place and Vicky Mendoza Notre Dame received 3rd place Humorous Reading winners in class A division were Steve Paschal Kearns 1st place Christopher Rich East 2nd place and Becky Rasmussen Bounti- Here they come ful 1200 students swarm CEU's campus I The coeds' wear weekly By AWC and IIEC Peggy Nielsen is a striking blonde coed who came to CEU from Provo Utah She lives at the dorm and is majoring in Business Education but could very well be pursuing a modeling career as far as we arc concerned With her tall willowy figure and good taste in clothes she presents an attractive picture wherever we sec her One of Peggy’s favorite school outfits is the forever-popula- r skirt and sweater combination In contrast to fads this style dress like the classic shirt-waiis always appropriate and probably the most versatile for campus wear Ibis she is wearing is a Donnkcnny cordinatc of 100 wool in apple green The st skirt has a soft plaid effect of navy orange and white The sweater has long sleeves and a feminine touch with the chochct-c- d trim at the neckline Much variety in color and style can be enjoyed by the college girl if she makes use of the skirt-sweat- er Thanks fashion Peggy Peggy Nielson— This week’s top selection of "Coed Wearers Weekly” Last minute instructions before competition begins 3rd piucc Class B competi- tors vho were awarded 1st 2nd a”d 3rd place in the llum'irnu Reading were Dan Pixley St Francis Leynclt Jensen Gunnison and Don Gordon Emery Extemporaneous Spea king winners in the class A division were Bret Huish Orem Eilleen and Ann Higgins Vicwmont Richards Weber in 1st 2nd and 3rd place positions respectively Mamie Sorensen of Gunnison Valley placed 1st in the class B Extemporaneous Speaking whereas Ralph Fugate of Wasatch placed 2nd and Kathy DeSimone Notre Dame placed 3rd Winners in Legislative Forum who were representing class A schools were Linda Grounds Highland 1st George Kahnar Skyline 2nd and 3rd place was awarded to Byron Harwatd Provo Class B divisional winners in Legislative Forum were Gary Silver Wasatch Terry Wilkinson Duchesne and Paul Clay-bur- n Wasatch in 1st 2nd and 3rd places respectively In Oratory Vicki Randle of Bountiful was awarded 1st place in the class A division whereas Neil Thomas of Highland and Gay Waymont of Weber captured the 2nd and 3rd place categories In the class B division the 1st 2nd and 3rd place winners were Susan Pepcr of St Francis Betty Jo Nelson of East Carbon and Becky Bruno of Notre Mr Warren gives the judges a small briefing From the desk of the dean Last Saturdey several people from the CEU campus helped with the Invitational High School Speech Meet These people can step back and take a good look at themselves and be very proud Hundreds of students found out what can be accomplished when people set a goal and everyone cixpe rates in its accomplishment The rucccss of the tournament was riding on everyone’s shoulders and at the day’s end as we looked buck we could see that everyone had carried his load Pay for this kind of work is not measured in dollars and cents nor in scholastic grades It is measured in the undescribablc feeling of accomplishment I will not try to list everyone that helped for fear I may miss just one person and this would not be fair So I will just say THANKS!
