Show E U will host one of the largest speech meets in the state Saturday the C E U High C School Speech Meet This meet has become tradition as over the past nine years CEU has play ed host to the largest Utah-Hig- h School-onl- y state speech meet in the students schools will be competing this Saturday The magnitude of the meet demands the use of all campus facilities plus the facilities of Carbon High School Notre Dame High School Durrant Elementary School North Carbon Stake Price Fifth Ward Chapel LDS Institute East and West Seminaries The 45 schools are divided into 29 “A" schools and 16 “B" schools Competition pits "A" schools against “A” schools and “B” schools against “B” schools The meet will get underway Between from 1200 and 1300 45 Utah high Saturdav morning with registra- tion at 8:00 am in the lobby of the Geary Theatre Competition begins at 9:15 am when actual events begin The day will be divided into three sections The morning section will begin at 9:15 am lasting until 11:45 am m Participants will have an hour for lunch The afternoon session will honin at 12:45 pm lasting until 3:15 pm The final round will begin at 3:14 pm and last until 4:30 After the final rounds trophies will be awarded to individual winners at an awards assembly A sweepstake trophy (given to the high school with the highest total number of points gained by it's entries) will also be ment of judges as 180 are needed Many of the judges are local citizens who annually donate their time for the success of the meet Many of the judges are students at CEU A “School for Judges” was held during the week to insure that the judges are qualified in their undertaking Sessions were held Thursday and Friday The many hours and the effort put into preparations for the meet are sure to make it a GOLDEN EAGLE 1 Every year the Red Cross has t blood drive The purpose of his drive is to renew the supply f the community blood bank Each year the Red Cross :omes to the school and asks for volunteers to give blood for his cause The date set this tear is tentatively scheduled for March 26 It will be held as in former years in the student un on building The drive runs five lours beginning You have probably noticed the collection of paintings enhancing the walls of the student lounge the past few days This collection is a traveling exhibition of one of the oldest art organizations in the state of Utah These paintings have been selected by the Associated Utah Artists from their annual art show This collection will travel throughout the state to encourage fine arts in Utah The paintings were hung January 23 and will remain in the main building until February 2 Thursday evening February 1 between 6 pm and 8 pm an open house will be held at which Mr Fairbanks will discuss the paintings with the public Although oil paintings are predominant a wide variety of techniques and mediums are included The work of many Utah artists will be displayed among these probably the most famous is the work of Florence E Ware Two of her paintings are shown "Along the Wasatch Front” and “Piowr Reverie" Florence Wa-r- e was born in Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Utah She has been the instructor at the University of Utah for many years All her paintings are completed direct from real life This show consists of thirty-fiv- e paintings Those- - viewing this art show
