Forensic Conference held at Dixie College in' St George and they were fifth in the nation at the Phi Hho Pi Speech Tournament for Junior Colleges Odesa Texas Fourteen students represented CEU at the Intermountain Forensic Conference held at St George The Intermountain Tournament was attended by Junior Colleges from Utah Idaho and Colorado The College of Eastern Utah won the Sweep-stake-s Award with 45 points Dixie College was second with 31 points and Snow College was third with 25 points CEU placed first in debate oratory and interpretation Three of the top five debate teams three of the five finalists in interpretation and one of the six finalists in extemp were from the College of Eastern Utah Intermountain Speech Meet First Winning a first place trophy in die Intermountain Speech recently appointed to die position id Yearbook Editor by the Student Senate Her appointment was voted by die Senate after a recommendation from Lola Hope this year's editor News Freshman Class Freshman Gass officers and guests attended a banquet honoring Mr and Mrs Sheldon Allred Dean and Mrs Carver Professor class sponsors for the past year and Mrs Larsen and Dr and Mrs During the course of the banquet Tucker class president Steve Dougherty presented plaques of appreciation to Pi Gamma Chi The Vouk The squad was accompanied by debate coach Neil Warren and Dean Carver Six members of the CEU forensic squad traveled to Odesa Texas with Neil Warren to participate in the Phi Rho Pi Speech Tournament the national tournament for junior colleges After four days of competition the CEU team was named fifth in the nation Peggy Self won second place in oratory and Corgiat was third in this event Peggy won another second place in interpretation Marian Burdick won fifth place in impromptu speaking In addition to the place trophies certificates were presented to the top contenders in each event All the members of the CEU squad received these in oratory and an excellent in interpretive reading Jackie Nielson got a superior in interpretation and an excellent rating in oratory Ratings of excellent were given to Peggy Self for oratory and interpretive reading: to Marian
