Henderson Reid Paco Paul Blaser and Doug Powell have formed a combination uniquo in that never before In the history of the college hava four team membors played side by side for olght years The four students all better than their years under average students basketball started careers eight ago at Price Junior High the guidance of Coach Lawrence Golding At this institution they garnered the County Round-Robi- n Championship During that particular basketball season Price Junior High lost only one game Ron and Paul were important cogs in the football machine at the junior high both playing the position they now occupy at end and quarter- back After graduation from Price Junior High they enrolled in Carbon High School and led Carbon to its most successful basketball season in its long history of Under competitive basketball direction of Coach Jack Woodthey led the team to a first place finish in Region 5 where they dropped only one ward league encounter Carbon High also reached the semi-fina- ls of the State Class “A” Championship this same year but dropped a close game to Bingham the eventual state champions Coach Jade Woodward will never forget this team nor will the students and adult followers through the county Graduation will ba tho scans of daparturo for those prims athletes who will bo missed at Carbon Collage greatly for their athletic achievements Four new boys who have also been playing together for four seasons have made an entrance into the ranks These boys all freshmen will form the nucleus of next year’s Carbon team Hailing from Indiana the Hoosier State these boys are expected to pick up where the Golden Boys leave of Ron Smith Dave Torphy Bob Cupps and Dean Hoggatt wil form the new Gold- en Boys' of Carbon College ketball team next year —C C" bas- Tho Golden Eagles of Carbon College finished In third place In this year's ICAC basketball wars The Eagles had a two won and four lost record In finishing out their regular season schedule Included in the four loses are loses to BYU freshman and Utah Paul Blasor freshman Both of these games were played on the home floor of the frosh February 9 and 10 saw the Eagles take to the road for games with College of Southern Utah and Dixie College The Eagles handed the Thunderbirds a 1 shellacking which featured a game of great offense and little defense The following night saw the tables turned as the Rebels 4 of Dixie handed Carbon a loss The Eagles fell behind early in the contest and could never Dixie overhaul the 96-9- 98-8- hot-shooti- ng five On February 17 Eagles played Boise host to the league-leadin-g Broncos Gus Johnson's 33 point splurge was too much and Boise 3 defeated Carbon by a count Eagles tested the BYU freshman at Provo on February 22 The Kittens lead throughout the contest and won a 9 victory over the local club Saturday February 24 the Eagles handed Snow a 105-8- 0 thumping in the National Guard Armory This was the second time the Eagles defeated the Snow five during the course of the regular season The Eagles traveled to Salt Lake City to test the Utah freshman on March 1 The youngsters from Utah held the upper hand as they scorched the nets for an amazing 110 points as they downed the Eagles 110-9- 4 Coach Paterson will field an Inaxporlencad team next season anchored by Doan Hoqgatt Ron Smith and Randy Moore who saw considerable action this season as a new organization at Carbon College The organization formed during the month of February received the name Carton College Ski Club All members have access to two of the 20 ski areas in Utah Bruin Haven above Sunnyside and the Clear Creek course above the town of Clear Creek President of the club is Richard Tat ton vice president John Peter nell secretary Sandra Scarte-zin- a social chairman Mike Tucker and conditions chairman Ed Klarich The club consists of 28 charter members Included are Sharon Campbell Gordon Dunlapt Chuck Charleton Byron Stoddard Curtis Crum Richard Kosec John Brasher That — Orson Tew Carbon band and language instructor first met Mr Peterson when Mr Tew was serving on an LDS mission in South America?
