Some have come from afar others from other schools in the district Beginning In this issue of the school paper is a series of Interviews of teachers A flare for creative writing and a yearning to teach it are among Lenore Hutching! talents and desires Mrs Hutchings teacher of sophomore English at Carbon High School and wife of the principal Lamont Arnold "School work last year was concerned with broadening and deepening my background in the field of science with emphasis in the biological field” stated Lamont Arnold Instructor of biology at Carbon Senior High Mr Arnold received a scholarship to Oregon State College where he obtained his Master of Science in General Science Previously Mr Arnold taught four years at Price Junior High School Mr Arnold is married and has boys ages seven five and three He likes to participate in all sports The school is very nice and rather well equipped although a few items have not yet arrived” he commented Mr Arnold and his family are happy to be back in his native three dent of Utah State University Mrs Siguard took first place in the piano division at Utah State Fair "Mr Fifield and I are very much excited about teaching at Carbon this year” commented Mr Siguard When asked what made him decide to teach band he said that since he was nine years old he has loved to play In the band "Band is a field of challenge” he commented F Hutchings was educated in Provo Utah She worked on the Provonian at Provo High and spent three years on the staff of the BYU University Mrs Hutchings has taught at Provo High Farrer Junior High and Roosevelt Her mimeographed paper at Roosevelt has received an rating since 1954 She has had an article published in the Christian Science Monitor and has one soon to be published in the Student and Publisher Magazine printed in Washington DC Her plans for the future are to write a Journalism textbook for the mimeographed newspaper and to teach at the BYU Journalism workshop next summer Mrs Hutchings recently won a television writing contest conducted by Deseret News and KSL-TSalt Lake City and received as an award trips to New York and to California Loman Carbon Personnel Assists in Production Several students and faculty members were included in the cast of the Community Theater play “Our Town” which was presented at the Civic Auditorium on September 24 and 25 Alvin J Eastman Sirs Jeanette McAlpine Mrs Laura Jameson and Mrs Dorothy Brown were featured in the choir Niel Warren was in charge of the lighting and Mrs Denlce Mclntire was publicity chairman Val Halamandaris Nick Kontas Odgers Olsen and Mike Orfanakls were also seen in the production V Mary Pizza "There is no more natural carmented ry over from class work to actual outside living than that which can be gained in a homemaking class” J Byron Thompson was the opinion of Mrs Mary Pizza homemaking teacher A man who enjoys teaching for Mrs Pizza came to Carbon this a career is J Byron Thompson year from Helper Utah to teach Mr Thompson lives at 401 North Home Living She was graduated 3rd East Street Price Utah He is from the LDS Business College in married and has three grown chil- Utah where she was affiliated with dren: Dr David Thompson who is Omicron Nu Home Economics married and lives In California Society Theron Thompson a student in a Honorary Mrs Pizza is a member of the dental school at the University State Home Economics CurricuState College of California and lum Committee and state presiLinda Thompson a Junior at Car- dent for the Home Economics bon High School section of the Utah Vocational Mr Thompson was graduated Association from the University of Utah and When asked what her recent ocfor the past fourteen years he has cupation was Mrs Pizza replied been teaching at Carbon College "For the past five years I have Mr Thompson teaches general served in the field of Home Econoffice practice and enjoys his work omics as a teacher and a supervery much visor at the Helper Junior High Mr Thompson says : T think we School” Mrs Pizza is married to George have a wonderful school and that we should be proud of our new Pizza who is principal of the Helper Junior High School They have building The attitude of our students is a real credit to them and a daughter Barabra Ann who is to the school I am really impress- a senior at Carbon "I am very happy to be a memed with the students of Carbon of the first faculty of the new ber this year” High Carbon High School” stated Mrs state "Utah is home” No one sleeps in room AS!!
