By Stewart Fausett of you have paid 50c to see a show when you could our team play just by showing a student body card? many of you have stood around with your hands in your rhen you should have been cheering your team on to victory? the hall pep rally before the Payson game the Pep club had difficulty generating enthusiasm into their members we expect the team to have pep if the students don’t We can’t expect the team to be their own cheerleaders At our games more towns people are present than are students A coach will tell you there’s a trememdous change in the team members when they know that someone is back of them in their struggle to win The responsibility for school spirit is everyone's Seniors are responsible because this is a new schol and they are its leaders Members of the graduating class should leave this school with the satisfaction of knowing that they helped make it a better one The responsibility however mainly lies with the juniors and sophomores for they will inherit this school and what it becomes depends on them for better or for worse sup-the- Forensic Club Girls’ League Elects Club Chad Hansen Forensic president has announced that the club will be ready for activity within the next few days The club is open to any student of Carbon High and new members are being solicited The club participates in all Forensic activities such as debate oratory extemporaneous and legislative forum Total membership at the end of this year is expected to reach 175 student A meeting of orientation for new members was held Thursday September 24 The officers are as follows: Chad Hansen president Saundra Thomas recorder Lou Ann Madsen treasurer: Marie Powell secretary and Val Halamandaris parliamentarian A vice president and a sergeant-of-arm- s are to be named later The club is planning many school activities among which is participation in an inter-schomodel United Nations and in tournament state and regional This year the club has hopes of joining the National Forensic League so that state winners may compete on a national level The Girls' League has elected officers for the coming year Lorraine Olsen Is president Judy Rae Cox is vice president and Nancy Pace is secretary Mrs Peterson is the advisor Two representatives will be chosen from each class The biggest event of the year which the Girl’s League sponsors is the Preference Ball held in the spring Two assemblies ond Girls' Day are also sponsored by this organization Quality Officials of Carbon High School acting on behalf o fthe student body have completed arrangements for a School Injury Indemschool nity Plan for the 1959-6- 0 year according to Loman F Hutchings principal The master policy will be on file in the school office It is underwritten by Security Life and Accident Company Denver Colorado and guarantees specific benefits for treatment and hospitalization and Principal Sum Indemnity up to $1000 The basic benefits provided by the policy are reproduced on the back of this letter and are payable in addition to payments received under any other policy for the same injury Extent of coverage is left to each Individual Three choices are available ACTIVITY COVERAGE A — Provides protection in accordance with the terms of the policy against injury incurred in all school sponsored and supervised athactivity including inter-scholetics but excluding activity connected with boxing and skiiing ACTIVITY COVERAGE B — Provides same protection as Coverage A except Injury in any activity connected with inter-schofootball Is also excluded ACTIVITY COVERAGE C — Provides same protection as Coverage A except injury In any activity connected with inter-schoathletics is also excluded Many parents have requested the opportunity to obtain increased benefits by payment of additional premium This may be done Double medical -- dental benefits may be obtained by payment of double premium In addition hospital room rate is Increased to maximum of $12 per day for 45 days The Principal Sum Benefits remain the same School officials are handling all details so the premium can be kept to an absolute minimum They are acting solely for the students and parents and cannot accept any other responsibility Schools are not permitted to assume liability for injuries incurred in school activities ol ol ol Enthusiasm Runs High Student Assassinated The halls of Carbon shook as the sound of 15 bullets Interrupted its academic quiet With a startled look upon his young face Mike Protopappas faced his assassin Slowly his flexing body sagged grotesquely to the polished floor where it lay twitching for 10 minutes then was pitifully still Surprised and shocked students gathered around the limp figure with mixed feelings — some fearful some in thoughtful contemplation A voice rang out mockingly “Hey Protopappas stop faking!"
