League season is starting again This youth program has been cited as one of the most progressive and functional ever devised It keeps youth under the sujervision of adults and provides for them dean healthful recreation but few peoolder ple cut cite the wonderful things it docs for the little-lcagoAnyone who people who work with the has ever talked to a manager storekeeper or any person connected with the youth program can easily see the enjoyment these people receive The manager will and sjieak of his charges as the miser docs of his gold one should listen to the storekeepers who talk of stars tistics like bookies The point of all this is: if you feel that you can -help in any way with the little league program or Westi ern Hoys’ league as it is called in this area now is the time to volunteer your services Students who have little to do in the summer may find it a rewarding experience - Carbon College is now the proud possessor of the title of Southern Division Champions for 1959 in baseball The team has been fabulous in five league games All but one of to date They have 16 home-run- s the starters have hit home runs Gary Wilson and Dick Bearnscn are 23-- 2 and top with four each They have toat Dixie 15-- 5 10-- 8 Snow three in CSU 26-- 7 14-- 2 Jim Ivulow has been the star starter pitching games and allowing only nine hits while striking out 29 This all means that Carton will meet the Northern Division champions (probably Weber) on May 9 for the ICAC Championship If the Eagles triumph there they will travel to Grand Junction for the nationals this year Luck team The Region 8 track meet has lieon held on the Carton College field This is fine and this columnist has been thinking now that the school is splitting that the college in years to come could hold an invitational track meet In a relatively weak track area a meet could boost the sport Also maybe the college could proselyte some good athletes that way Oh well another column another suggestion Spring football should start on May 11 with about 12 lettermen returning and many new prospects There may be another alumni game and if it’s anything like the one last year it should be terrific Prospects for the Eagle team are good for next year For example George Black frosh BYU’s may come down and there are other Utah prospects viz twelve from Wyoming four from Idaho and three or four from Nevada Danny Campbell and Dickie Nelson former Carbon gridders and now California teachers are helping to interest some California boys that played n the Shrine High school All-stgames A summary of this year's track meets of Carbon High school showed high honors being taken at two of the three meets held The team first journeyed to Grand Junction Colorado to compete in the Mesa Junior College track meet Competing with twenty-eteams the Carbon cinder-me- n ight made a good showing and walked away with fourth place honors A second meet was held at Dixie where the team took fourth place hqnors Taking only seven men Coach Jack Woodward met in competition with teams whose members averaged 30 men Invitational At the BYU track meet held at Provo April 18 the team failed to place in the meet which featured some of the best schools of this state and schools of Nevada Colorado Ida- and Wyoming ho Continued from Page One) Petersen president of Carbon Board of Education County Commencement
