Approved Rock Carbon By PAUL BOYACK Is America’s youth becoming physically unfit? Who besides the athletes has the chance to build their bodies and keep physically fit? Intramural sports give a chance to develop their bodies and coordination the same as if they were on school teams I think it would be a good idea to start intramural sports in grade schools It would teach good sportsmanship when students are young and when they need'll It would prepare them for high school and college and give them a chance to work for a place on one of the school teams This would also help the school teams They would have more students from whom to choose the athletes that come up would be better equipped America's youth is becoming fat and lazy according to a recent article in a popular magazine It stated that a survey had been taken and a number of boys and girls were given physical fitness tests Only a small percentage passed a test that should be easy for any average youth The ones that failed were the ones that need intramural sports badly These people instead of sitting and watching television all day and eating candy should be doing something worth while Parents should be interested enough to see that their children keep in good shape physically Russian youth aren’t sitting "‘twiddling their thumbs" are trained from the time TTiey school to particienter first they to work hard in and sports pate If a war should come and this is very possible who would have the better chance the youth who has been training all his life in physical fitness program and education or the youth who attends school during the day comes home in a car or bus flops in a chair candy bar in one hand and bottle of soda pop in another and watches television until it is time for bed? It is my opinion that we are getting behind other nations in the training of our youth This is why I am all for intramural sports non-athlet- es nd V IW five touchdowns and Collecting conversions the Dixie AfRebels outscored Carbon 2 ter a scoreless first quarter Dixie scored twice making the half time score 16-- 0 Carl Morley took advantage of a blocked Dixie punt and scampered 11 yards on the first play for Carbon’s first touchdown On the resulting kickoff Mike Jones ran 90 yards for Dixie’s third touchdown Carbon marched the kickoff back downfield and Ray Butcher ran the last 10 yards to pay dirt five 40-1- Ricks Vikings Down Eagles The Carbon College Eagles' rally in the fourth quarter fell short of spoiling the Ricks College Vikings' homecoming The final score was Carbon 14 and Ricks 21 Coming from behind a 21 point deficit Larry Regis and Carl Hunt scored two touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters respectively A pass from Regis to Gary Swan topped the score with 2 points Ricks scored twice in the first swept half Larry Atkinson of Carbon the middle the through line untouched for 51 yards to make the initial touchdown Gary Ward kicked the extra point BUNNELL'S has ill Smart Looking & PLYMOUTH DODGE Newost in Style Lowest In Price 4 Keys are given to members of the Executive Council and certificates to the members of the House of Delegates 5 Honor pins are given to college and high school scholastic honor students 6 Department Awards: (For Sophomore and Senior Graduates) Home Economics 2 awards Industrial Arts and T & I 2 awards Art 2 awards Business awards won by Carbon students in regional business con- You Heard?
