Show Pate Two Friday October 7 1955 TIIE CARBONICLE You Don't Hurt Others You Just Hurt Yourself Should a few vulgar-minde- d male students at Carbon College be allowed to make vile and indecent remarks to girls in our halls or about the campus? This situation has come to our attention through numerous complaints It is a condition which should be remedied immediately It is a serious situation when girls cannot walk through the halls of an educational institution without having some illiterate individuals hurl vulgar remarks at them The girls for whom these remarks are intended arc both debased and humiliated while the unscrupulous individuals making the vile remarks seem to be totally unaware of their own ignorance It is too bad these people have such a low sense of humor In all truth only about ten or twelve people in the school arc responsible for this situation but as always the majority must suffer because of the antics of a few It is not necessary to mention names since the entire student body knows who they are To the individuals involved we ask this—1 "1 lave you no respect for your friends or for yourself? Would you want any man to subject your sister to the indecent treatment you bestow upon another’s sister? Must you sink to such a low standard to gain Pi Gam Tea Staged The homo of Mrs Vorda Peterson provided the lovely setting for the Pi Gam tea held Sunday from to 5 pm The Sophomore Pi Gams who were dressed in black served as hostesses to all ladies tif the college sophomore and freshmen classes and lady faculty members This was one in the series of rush parties which arc to be held in the near future for the purpose of selecting new members of the Pi Gam sorority Pouring at the tables were Mrs Aaron E Jones and Mrs Bess Jones 3 Paper to Skip an Issue Because of the shortening of the week because of teachers’ institute there will be no paper next attention?" week Let's all have a good time Why not be conspicuous by playing the part of a gentleman? but play it safe and make sure The reward in self esteem and general respect would make your the enrollment is as high the Monbetter efforts more worthwhile day after vacation as it is on the Wednesday before “Look at My Hand" When an entire student body person by person sits down and looks at a single hand something is happening The hand belongs to "Sunnic" local photographer and the event happening is the taking of the class pictures for the yearbook This single event is very short and soon forgotten But it is actually only the beginning for a group of students The work of the yearbook staff is just now starting To the majority of students there is no evidence of time and labor being expended Once in a while a pliotographcr is noticed but even then the only comments that he ever receives arc either “Boy have you got a good deal!" or “Hey! Take my picture" The only part of the photographer's job visible is the bright side No thought is given to the hours that must be spent developing and printing the pictures For most of the yearbook staff its work is unnoticed and unrewarded Its time and effort must all be spent outside of class time and its only reward is the satisfaction of doing a good job The script writer has to worry about maintaining a single idea in such a way that it will tie together the year’s events in an interesting way throughout the book The business manager must see that funds to pay the neces-sarr- y expenses arc distributed among all the departments and that the materials arc available us needed In addition he must direct the collecting of advertisements The general staff must complete all of the for the pictures and writings and sec that they arc ready for printing before each deadline In addition there art' a hundred and one other jobs that the staff is called on to complete The editor has all of the previous mentioned worries plus some of his own Truly there is a great deal of effort expends to make a really fine yearbook available to the student body Coming to the Cinema Theatre October 13th lay-ou- ts JIENRY Jk JACK JAMES WIUAM BTHTPALKES WASDKND fMLCAIR PRODUCED FRANK’S GLASS SHOP faodb Wholesale and Retail PLATE GLASS — TABLE Phone JOHN FORD slIERVYN LsROY I TOPS STORE FRONTS — MIRRORS WINDOW GLASS — AUTO GLASS 50 South Main IT LELAND HAYWARD 233-W- — - Helper Completely Remodeled for your comfort! |
