We’ve tried before" But how hard did they really try? Previous attempts have always been to the mayor or the city council Why not to the civic clubs? If anyone can or will help us I think the civic clubs are our best bet If enough interest can be aroused in school I think the members of these clubs are broad minded enough to realize the necessity of improving the recreational facilities of Price and Carbon county The American way of life is to fight for what we know to be right I believe everyone twill agree that these improvements are an absolute necessity It will be cheaper to provide now than for society to attempt to correct this mistake in years to come DEAN DENISON so-cal- led ks The Carbonlcle 1951 WOMEN'S INTRAMURALS FINALS AND STANDINGS This week marked the end of the ping pong section of intramurals Results of the singles were: D E club first place Carbonette club second Majorette club third In doubles the Demons placed first D E club second Midgets third Next on the girls’ program is Softball games began softball There's Been Some with the D E club week this Changes Made Demons This will the playing Dr Jones plans next year to mark the end of the women's inchange the requirements for tramurals graduating from high school In Point standings are as follows: order to graduate the students D E club 425 Pep club 375 must include one year of speech Majorettes 300 Mavericks 275 in their course Eaglettes 225 Demons 225 Car For a general course they must bonettes 200 Midgets 175 have two years of English and one Mrs Donna Hansen is in charge year of speech For college pre- of all women's intramural games paratory three years of English and one year of speech must be CARBON GARNERS taken MUSIC HONORS Carbon high did itself proud Last Competitive last week in the music festival by Assemblies Planned garnering 15 first ratings for a total of 24 entries The band set the The Letterman clubs competiwith two firsts one for conpace tive assembly which was schedcert the other for marching uled for today will be presentsoloists were RobInstrumental ed Monday May 7 at the regular clarinet ert first Bill Burgener assembly hour according to Mr trombone first Mel Wall Hill Summerhays second and Merlin ParThe Pep club will present theirs trumpet ish bass horn second These peoMay 11 ple were ably instructed by band teacher E M Williams Patty PUBLICATION STAFF Erickson and Mrs E M Williams POSITIONS NOW OPEN accompanied Mr Hansen directed vocal vioPositions for Carbon's three official publications are now avail- lin and piano entries as follows: Delores able for next year according to Marion Larsen first J N Washburn adviser Students Zanclll first Cherle Hansen first wishing to apply for editorships David Thompson first Kent Wilor staff memberships on either cox first Lauren Miles second the directory the Carbonide or Evan Golding second Tom Arthe yearbook are urged to act at nett second Sherlene Bills seconce ond All of these were vocal solos Applications should be made in Instrumental solos were as folwriting to the Publications Coun- lows: Margaret Thompson piano cil and addressed to Mr first Vera Odendahl violin first and Patty Erickson piano first Other vocal numbers Included the The Federal wage and hour mixed chorus first mixed law was enacted by congress in quintette first ladies trio first 1938 and amended in 1940 and ladies duet first and mixed again in 1949 quintette second A GOOD PLACE Refresh Any time ADD ZEST TO THE HOUR!
