Show THE CARBONICLE Volume 16 Carbon College Price Utah Friday May 4 1951 Number 24 Washburn Madsen and Stoddard To Run School Affairs Next Year GOLD PARTY MAKES HIT WITH STUDENTS Van Washburn Sharon Stoddard and Charles Madsen have been elected by the student body to manage student affairs for the coming school year Jovial Van Washburn and Veep Madsen plan not only to do their best in directing student-bod- y problems but plan to have an efficient cooperative school government With pretty Sharon Stoddard to take down the minutes this team is bound to make Carbon worth coming back for CARBON HOSTS MUSIC FESTIVAL On April 25 and 26 Carbon was Carbon's Speech Squad Brings Home Laurels One of the most popular in the tournament at Houston Carbon's fine speech delegation walked off with more than its share of honors last week in the annual Phi Rho Pi junior college meet All five members of the group made the finals in at least one event and though official ratings are not yet available it is certain that Carbon's was one of the top teams winning among other things two national championships in oratory Results were as follows: Nick Nikas first in oratory second in oratorical declamation finalist in extempore speaking Bonsie Faddis first in oratory third in radio speoking Phyllis Daskalos third in oratory Keith Busey finalist in radio speaking Van Washburn finalist in poetry reading Mr Morgan who accompanied the students was elected third vice president of Phi Rho Pi for the coming year Next year’s tournament will be held in Pueblo host to the annual spring music festival held by the schools of Region 5 The 11 schools particiAlterra pating were Carbon Uintah Grand North Emery South Emery Altamont Price jr high Helper jr high East Carbon Jr high and Wellington jr high The different events of the meet were vocal string and instrumental The bands leading in the outing were Carbon high school Price junior high Harding and North Emery SUARON STODDARD CHARLES MADSEN Tourist Class Offered Monday April 30 Mr William C Winder from the State Board of Vocational Education gave a very interesting lecture on the natural wonders and historic Interests of the state of Utah Those in attendance were surprised to learn of the many wonders we have in our state Utah is the greatest crossroads of the west yet the average tourist stays two and one-ha- lf days in Utah enroute to some other destination Tourists race through Utah but not to Utah It Is our job to be well enough Inarmed to give out intelligent ln- rmation in order that the tour-- ‘t will spend more time in Utah Utah beckons the traveler to a ft: 1 of color and enjoyable recreation Mr Winder originated the first 'lns for Selling the Tourist Trade in 1938 Since then this class has icon approved by the U S Cham-- cr of Commerce The class will be continued Monday May 7 at 3:00 pm at the college Everyone is invited Ixtcal scenic attractions will be discussed |
