the National Phi Rho Pi speech tournament at Houston Mr Texas Morgan debate coach will probably accompany the team on this excursion It is reported that the team this year is one of the best Carbon teams ever to attend a national contest All students to attend arc entered in three or four contests giving the school a chance to place in a wide variety of events The speech team will be headed by veteran Nick Nikas who is entered in debate impromptu oratory and oratorical declamation The other students who will compete are Van Washburn entering in debate oratory poetry speakreading and after-dinn- er ing Keith Busey is entering in discussion extemporaneous and radio speaking Bonnie Faddis who will compete in debate oratory after-dinnspeaking poetry reading and radio: Phyllis Daskalos competing in debate oratorical declamation oratory and impromptu Large Cast Ready (or Carbon College Opera D E Convention Held On March 26 the D E students of Carbon left for the state D E convention Besides most of the :c":’lir members three prospec-'iv- e members also attended Alan Bartlett Shelia Dorius and Bill Pero Upon arrival the members regis- -: red At 10:30 am the first business meeting was held with Rex McArthur officiating Carbon’s D E club furnished the entertainment for this meeting At 12:00 o'clock noon there was a two-hofree period for lunch and shopping At 2:00 pm the second meeting was held with Lulu Peters vice president of the Utah D E clubs in charge Carbon’s D E students were well pleased as three out of the ten winning manuals were from Carbon traveled to the regional interpretive meet at Ogden on Wednesday and 11 of these students qualified for the state meet to be held April 13 and 14 at the BYU Rita Clavcl and Bob Cones qualified in
