' WHO’S WHO by Dorothy Hardee Dear old Carbon is once again surrounded by the excitement that comes at the beginning of every school year Once again our curiosity is aroused by the many new faces that are crowding our halls Perhaps the most noticeable are those of our new faculty members Miss Elizabeth Erickson calls Ogden her home town You can find this pretty Miss in the sewShe's ing room most of the day teaching our girls the art of dressmaking Miss Erickson attended Weber high school and Weber college She then left her home town to continue her studies at the Utah State Agricultural college in LoBefore making her apgan Miss Erickson pearance here taught one year at Wendovcr Jr She’s at home here high school She thinks everyone is already so friendly and cooperative Mr Leland R Bird is also a northerner He hails from Logan He attended Logan schools and afer graduation he worked for the Utah General Depot in Ogden In November of 1942 he joined the Army Air Corps During his time of service he was stationed in Alaska for thirty months After his release in November of 1945 he came home and returned to school Mr Bird graduated from the USAC in 1949 with a major in Business Administration He has had special training for the work which he is now doing in the field of distributive education This is his first year of Mr Bird reports that teaching he is very much impressed with Carbon college Another addition to the feminine side of our faculty is Miss She is Betty Jean McNamara also a Uiahn Her home town is Midvale Miss McNamara graduated from the University of Utah in 1948 with a B A degree and in 1949 she received her M A degree While attending college she majored in history and minored in English This is her first year Miss McNamara is of teaching new at library work She has had no library science at all which might be the reason she dislikes Carbon's study halls already Mr Terrance Reid will probably be more familiar to the fellows than he will be to the girls at Carbon He'll be spending most of his time in the shop Mr Reid is almost right in his own back yard His home is in Emery county He attended the old Central high school in Castle Dale During the war he was a radio technician in the air corps After his release he returned to school and graduated from U S A C with a major in Industrial Page Three Slight Decrease In College Enrollment Noted In First Week Enrollments in Carbon county’s junior college and senior high school during the first week of school were slightly less than for ihc corresponding period last year according to figures reported this week by Dr Aaron E Jones Carbon college president The senior high school classes juniors and seniors and the two classes in the college freshmen and sophomores make up the student body at Carbon college According to the figures released by Dr Jones the college enrollment after the first week of stuschool totaled 214 full-ti240 to dents as compared last year In addition some 12 students are classes taking part-tim- e Along this line Dr Jones stated today that the enrollment for the fall quarter will probably come much nearer or may slightly surpass last year’s opening enrollment within the next week The high school enrollment has dropped off some in both the junior and senior classes Last year 254 seniors had enrolled during the opening week and this year the number is down to 245 The junior class enrollment is down from 293 last year to 272 for this year The entire student body for the opening days of last year numbered 787 as compared to 731 at the
