Show Friday April 8 1949 THE WEEKLY CARBONICLE WHO’S WHO By Darlene Christensen A few of the Peppers who helped to present to you the Pep assembly today will be the constituents of the Who’s Who column for this week Betty Marakis a small but industrious brown eyed senior was seen as a golden sunbeam Because of her pleasing personality this part was not hard for her to portray Although Betty is considered a native of Price she was born in Hiawatha January 2 1931 She has gone through her years of schooling in Price completing her twelfth at Carbon Our Flag Flies Again Thanks to Mr Leonard and a crew of his workmen Carbon’s flag again flies proudly in the air A professional painter and were steeplejack engaged to service the pole but they didn’t appear and Mr Frandsen was contacted He repaired the rope and painted the pole without charge Mr Frandsen and his workmen cooperated to paint the pole and straighten the rope February 27 A new flag has been ordered to replace the one now on the pole The flag now flying is just six months old but fierce and violent winds have rippel and torn the ends The school expresses its appreciation to Mr Frandsen and his associates for this service this year Paralee Johnston while portraying a Dutch maiden sang second in the trio of “Far Away Places" She is the vice president BYU Students of the Pep club this year Para- Visit Carbon Friday lee is a resident of Price and has attended the Price Junior High and Carbon Another performer in today’s assembly was Gloria Zanelli Her grace and poise were shown in a Grecian ballet When asked where she was born she replied “in a house" (These people that like to be different) Gloria is a senior at Carbon this year Her home is in Helper and she attended Helper elementary and junior high schools before coming to Carbon Cowgirl Cactus Cane was Vivian Bradshaw She hails from Royal not Texas although it may be hard to believe She was born October 11 1932 and is a junior at Carbon Her future in the pep club is predicted to be a very attractive one Intramurals home room softball added to their first-ha- lf title the two championships in horseshoes as they defeated Cowley’s home room in both doubles and singles last Tuesday April S Jim Procarione and Tony O’Berto playing for defeated Julian Salas and Clayton Nielson for the doubles championship Ernest Procarione defeated Julian Salas two out of three matches for the singles championship Smith-Crissma- n's Smith-Criss-m- an Five minutes before the bell rang on Friday April first six students from the B Y U came down to participate in return debates Two of the students took their car down town to get it repaired and they never returned Thus Boyd Fjelsted and James Taylor didn't get to participate in the debates There were no decisions made in these debates It was just a friendly contest held for the purpose of giving the boys Page Three SENIOR GRADUATION On May 20 1949 approximately two hundred twenty-fiv- e students will leave through the portals of Carbon Junior College and in through the doors of other coland various leges universities walks of life For on this night the commencement exercises will be held for the seniors of Carbon Junior College lower division According to Miss Veronica Ilcinlein who is one of the senior class advisors the program will consist of a speaker various student participations and the exercises graduating the students After the exercises there will be a dance in the college gymnasium All In The Family For the last few weeks we have witnessed some strange “goings on" between the typing and wood-wobuildings It is the construction of a new 27 by 90 foot welding building The construction of the welding building is directed by Mr Men-si- es who with the help of the students of the manual art classes expect to have the exterior finished by the end of spring Mr Shield with the assistance of the welders is doing the metal work and Mr Smith with his student electricians will do the electrical work The money for this project was supplied by the Carbon College building fund rk |
