Show WELCOME JUNIOR COLLEGES Two-da- y Meet Opens President Aaron E Jones “Carbon college is extremely happy to welcome students and teachers from the other junior colleges participating in the speech meet here We are glad to see these activities revived and hope that the meet may become an annual affair” With these words Dr Aaron E Jones welcomes the delegates from the various schools to the first annual Junior College Forensic speech meet Colleges from Carbon Dixie Snow Weber Pueblo Junior college and Idaho Southern are competing in the meet Volume 13 The students from Carbon that are participating in the affairs are: Debate —Maxine Vuksinick Judd Killpack Beverly Griffith George Babotes Conrad Nelson James Mangum Nor-ma Anderson and Dick Scow Dr Jonas of the University of Utah will be the guest speaker at the banquet to be held tonight in honor of those participating in the meet Dr Jonas began his teaching career at Carbon high school Extemporaneous — Van Perkins and Douglas Johnson Orations —Neil Warren amf Bill Craig The event is an attempt to make the Forensic meet an annual occurrance in which all students of the various junior colleges will look forward to Carbon College February 13 1948 Elks List Prizes For Scholarship flWS Schedules Charm Programs "Sorry no men allowed” will often be heard in the Library at noon on the days the A W S takes over with the charm programs sponsored for the girls of Carbon The first of these programs was presented Wednesday February 11 at 12:15 on the subject "The Head” which included tips and hints for care and make up of the face hair and voice Under the direction of Pearl Oliver Goldie Marakis and Jean Thomas the first program was successfully put over The A W S council members have two more programs scheduled one in March and one In April Arlene Thomas president of the A W S council stated "Through these programs the girls of Carbon College will have the opportunity to use and see demonstrated the proper ways of cosmetic applying as well as proper carriage as dressing Although not compulsory the charm courses are recommended for all girls” Number 8 "Most Valuable Student” scholarship contest sponsored by the Elks Lodge is now underway according to Mr Silas Anderson chairman of the scholarship committee of the Price chapter of Elks These awards for the past thirteen years have enabled many students to continue their college training Awards offered this year are: Girls Boys $ 700 $ 700 First award 600 600 Second award 500 500 Third award 400 400 Fourth award 300 300 Fifth award 1000 1000 Five $200 awards 500 500 Five $100 awards Any student 'is eligible to compete if he is in the senior class of a high school or college preparatory school and a resident within the jurisdiction of the Order Application must be filed before March 1 ru-per- ior Arlene Thomas Legion Essay Contest All pupils of junior and senior high school age are eligible to compete in the annual Americanism Essay Contest sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary to be conducted by the various English classes during February The essay cannot be over 500 words and must conform to the subject "Our Great American Heritage— Liberty a |
