Show Happy 80th JBirthdag The auctions that we were able to attend biggest crowds. We would drive for many miles to attend these and the crowds were unbelievable! We would arrive early to try and look everything over and decide what to buy and how much to spend. Once these items are in the auctioneers hands and people are bidding it's too late to wonder about the condition of the items as they are sold "as is" Believe me, I have witnessed many bidders get into a frenzied haggle over "who has the bid", and it's not a pretty picture! We would mingle, visit and buy what we could afford and maybe plan for a certain item at a later date. A lot of these auctions were estate auctions and they announce whose estate these items were from. However at most auctions we wondered about many of the items, where they came from and why they were put on auction. I have since lived long enough to know that there are many reasons for this, some of which are money, family haggles and no one left to care! Our kids were always put out with us on Saturdays because they knew what was up. They were all given orders but the girls had more chores in the house so they got the most responsibility and weren't too happy about another Sat. ‘sittin home’. They refused to go along so this was the next best - thing. They couldn't believe what we brought home and in later years told me how embarrassed they were when this pickup pulled up about 6: p.m. There's nothing that looks as poverty ridden as an old pick-up with a load of old dusty antique furniture! The application process involves an interview, so, we are encouraging anyone interested to apply as soon as possible." Single women students The proposed construction of a third, or passing lane at North Center Street and Highway #21 at Minersville has created some serious concerns for its business community. The building of this interchange will be a prime target area for new commercial enterprises, and as happened in other places where they have been by-passed by the new freeways, the down town businesses die on the vine, Also concerns are being voiced by the citizens of Minersville with regard to the potential defacing of the land mark affectionately known as “Old Bally Hill”. These concerns were not addressed during the time of the publication relative to the proposed construction because people had no conception as to the magnitude of negative impact the new construction could create. If new businesses are permitted at the new interchange it will bankrupt the small stores and service stations presently in operation. These people deserve to be protected. They have a large investment at stake and have spent many years of hard work to build up that which they now have. Some folks call this sweat equity, but in the process they have also invested large sums of money, paid a lot of taxes and have also provided much employment. It is only fair that these small merchants be protected. They have earned protection and they deserve it. They are not trying to stop the wheels of progress but are only requesting, of the Planning and Zoning Commission, that a 10 year moratorium on competitive commercial business permits be granted at the subject area. Let’s help them get it. On the issue of potential mutilation of old “Bally Hill”. To permit a passing lane to be cut into the face of this old land mark does not sit well with a lot of folks. They realize that it is being done by the expenditure of their own tax dollars, and is being done to benefit Circle Four Farms and no one else. So now people are asking themselves the THE, WAY..........Cherish all your therefore do not pay taxes. Standards have been lowered in the building trades. This allows trailer houses and sub-standard modulars to be brought in. (Especially in happy "moments ..,......They. make a fine cushion for old Milford Elementary Scholarships Available At SUU Book Fair to Dear Editor, Minersville & Milford). This in my opinion is a serious mistake. The projected expansion by Circle Four will ultimately be the ruination of the County. And then, if history repeats itself, Circle Four will leave and the clean up, will then be up to whoever has the guts to continue to live here. At that point in time you could not attract another industry in here if you cried your eyes out. Is this the kind of legacy we are destined to leave to our children?? 1998 is an election year. For a change lets elect commissioners who are not hand in glove with Circle Four Farms. Who do not have a vested interest in their expansion and who do not stand to benefit from Circle Four’s road building tactics after granting to them a (right of way) through private property. We do not need any more County Commissioners who stand to get favored contracts and higher prices for the land they sell to them. The people of Beaver County have been sold down the road long enough. Any Commissioner who is linked commercially with Circle Four, should not be permitted to hold office. Wake up people, take a hard look at what has happened in other areas where this type of operation has been allowed before, It’s time to look at a hog for what it is. /s/ H.E. “Griff? We have always had a lot of very nice antiques in our home but, our large two story home held more than we could place in a smaller home in Vegas when we retired and moved there so, what did we do? We held an all day auction and sold everything that we could not move with us. Two neighbors contributed items that they wanted to sell, so it was quite a day and we had come full circle. There's always an electricity of excitement at an auction, and one of the most embarrassing for me was when my husband and I were standing at different places and unknowingly started bidding against one another. Thank goodness the auctioneer knew us both and the bidding didn't get too carried away. Everyone had a good laugh lg another lesson learned! Stick fomthes if you"r gonna do some bidding. My teen age children felt this same way and now we can laugh about it. Comments do iiot necessarily express the editorial policy or viewpoint question, “Why should we allow this to happen?” Let Circle four find another alternative and at their own expense. Giving a free hand to Circle Four has got to come to a screeching halt. We are now faced with problems which we did not create and which we never had before. We are faced with a socio-economic dilemma caused by Circle Four’s marginal wage structures and the consequent personnelwhich it attracts. Crime rate in the county is on the upward trend.
