She had failed to tell her doctor that she was taking the OTC drug and thus caused herself several days of serious complications. This week I want to give you some good advice I read about common medicines. _ Medicines can cure or control illnesses, and sometimes save lives. * Decongestants and blood pressure drugs can cause fast pulse and - continued high blood pressure. * Aspirin with oral anticoagulants can increase the tendency to bleed. *Pain relievers with diabetes medications may lower blood sugar level too much. *Laxatives interfere with the action of many medications Prescription drugs, however, are potent chemicals and can harm as well as. - *Antacids interfere with several drugs, including tetracycline and vlod help. drugs (i.e., Tagamet). Foods rich in vitamin K, including broccoli, lettuce, cabbage and spinach, tend to neutralize the effectiveness of the. anticoagulant Warfarin (Coumadin and others). People taking = Warfarin should ultimately consume these foods only in moderation. Cheese and MAO inhibitors. Foods containing tyrami K (including pickled herring, chicken livers, certain cheeses, chocolate, red wine, and beer) can cause high blood pressure, headaches, palpitations, nausea, and vomiting. when combined with antidepressants known as MAQ inhibitors (i.e. Marplan, Nardil, and Parnate). Alcohol and various drugs. DO NOT drink alcohol with drugs that lower blood sugar, with sleeping pills or narcotics, with metronidazole (Flagyl and Protostat), or other medications prescribed by your doctor of suggested by your pharmacist.
