One source of revenue being considered is a utility franchise tax. If it is adopted, consumers living inside the city would pay an additional 5% on their U. S. West telephone bills, 5% on-Utah Power and Light electricity bills, and 5% on Mountain Fuel gas bills. . The 3% TV franchise fee, which was previously calculated on a net amount, will remain at 3%, but will be calculated on the gross dollar to generate a substantial increase. Residents can determine how they will be effected by reviewing their individual bills for the previous year, and Track Meet First and second place _.winners in each age group 9-10, -11-12, 13-14 of the Beaver County ~Track. Meet will compete at the -Tegional meet June 15. Meet will _be held at the Milford High School Track, starting at 9:00 A.M. adding the designated tax to each bill. Dance The Milford City Council will hear public comments Tuesday, June 18th, at 6:00 p.m. Tegarding the tax. Since the public hearing is set at the same time as the groundbreaking ceremony for the new LDS church, written comments are an option for residents constrained by the time conflict. Such comments must be received at the city office before 3:00 p.m. that day, to be considered at the hearing. _ . eas Roe. _ The franchise tax hearing will be followed by'a budget hearing at 6:30 p.m. If approved, the franchise fee can be shown on the 1996/97 budget. Referendum is not required for implementation of this tax. Once levied, the tax remains as a source of revenue for Milford City, and does not require yearly renewal. Other immediate options to give the budget a boost are almost non-existent. Although the council has been actively studying city finance and the upcoming budget since April, a number of variables remain unresolved: . __ * Sale ofthe AT&T building is reflected in the 1996/97 budget, with $100,000. projected for golf course improvements.
