The wall, located at the west end of the upper level hallway, will be set aside to recognize the accolades of alumni. “Shaun Cox has been suggested because of his accomplishments at the Naval Academy. Horace Palmer, who funded a dairy scholarship last year, will undoubtedly be among the first honored. It will be something the kids can look at every day to help them realize that this school isn’t just the place they go every day, it’s a building block that empowers them to compete wherever in the world they go,” Schofield said, Let’s Make Milford High School’s Wall of Fame! By Gladys Whittaker: Have you ever wondered how well students from a small high school compare with students from the metropolitan schools when they go out into the world? After doing a little research on Milford graduates, we can tell you they do very well! We have many students from. Milford High who have been very successful in their college endeavors and gone on to accornplish great goals in business, medical, teaching. and other professional careers. They have met the competition in many fields and have shown that you can succeed whether you come from a large school or small. Principal Schofield is behind this research project to encourage our real stud continue their education to prepare ithem for a world that will be far more competitive than former students have had in the past. He wvould like to honor former students who have had successful Lo to storage and production bins. Slip of the actual feed mill started Monday, March 25. f Although procedure for the feed mill construction is basically # the same as it was for the towers, Todd and Sargent’s Chuck -Remele said it is much more complex. Interior of the structure is divided ‘into bins for feed components. As with the silos, concrete is lifted by the 150 ton crane to a hopper at work level. It is then distributed by buggy to the section forms. Work crew size has been increased to 60 men per shift. The structure grows at a rate of approximately 10 inches per hour. It will: | take eight days and 3,100 10-yard truck loads of cement to: teach the 155' finished height. "Historical Tidbits The Model "T ord By Norman Baxter-In this age of automobiles with all of the complicated gauges ‘and buttons, we sometimes forget the impact of Henry Ford's Model T. It was a monument to simplicity. Folks that didn't know the difference between a single tree or a double tree, or the mechanics of adjusting a horses bridle, or tightening a cinch strap, now were on wheels with a motor. It was said that all it took to keep the Ford going was a piece of bailing wire and a pair of gas pliers, and that was true. . : The Model T was known as the Tin Lizzie or more affectionately know as just Liz. There was no gear shift, just three pedals on the floor. The right one was low gear, the center one was reverse and the left one was the brake. There was no gas pedal but a lever under the steering wheel on the column. On the other side was the spark that could be advanced or retarded. There was no gauges of any kind. No ammeter as there was no battery, No oil gauge, if the engine rattled, you added oil. No temperature gauge. some more expensive cars had a thermometer in the radiator cap, but Liz only had a hole in the cap. If water blew out of the hole you adjusted the spark or stopped the car to let the engine cool. If steam came out of the cap then you added water to the radiator. There was no gas gauge. You sat on a thin cushion on the gas tank. More sensitive folds could feel the slosh of gas, otherwise you used.a stick to measure the gas. In stormy weather, the top which was folded back of the rear seat, was pulled forward and attached to the windshield. Curtains could be snapped on the doors. There was no heater, but some smart guy cut a hole in the floor board on the passenger side, just where the manifold curved down and under the floor board. The fan blew air over the mamifold and into the car. If you didn't want heat, you had a piece of tin to put over the hole, There were lights only when the motor was Rene Electatrity was supplied by a magneto and a system of coils. To start Liz up you retarded the spark. You never! Never! turned. the al without first retarding the spark. She would kick back so suddenly that the crank could not disengage and it would spin backward: If you saw someone with their arm in a cast, you were almost always right in assuming that they had failed to retard the spark. You pulled the crank up against the|’ {compression and then gave it a twist. When the engine started, you jumped in, advanced the spark until the engine ran smoothly. At that time you stepped on the low pedal and pulled down on the gas lever. When the car got up to speed a lever on the left was thrown forward and you were in high gear. Now you adjusted the as lever to the speed you wished to go. (the original cruise] control) There was no jack, you lifted the wheel while someone else placed a block under the axle.
