Beaver County 4-H’ ers shared in the unique experience of traveling cross-country and meeting counterparts from another state over the Easter holiday weekend. The youngsters boarded a chartered bus early the morning of April 12 and returned April 17. In the six whirlwind days allotted for the trip the youngsters visited the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Old Dodge City, various historical sites including No Mans Land Historical Museum in Oklahoma and the Pro-Rodeo Hall of Fame. A non-denominational Easter Pageant depicted the Lord’s Supper, betrayal and crucifixion on Saturday night, and the resurrection on Sunday morning. The highlight of the trip was meeting the Beaver County, Oklahoma 4-H’ers and staying with them in their homes. Adrie Roberts, County Extension Agent who served as one of the chaperons on the trip, reported that all nervousness on the part of the youngsters. melted away as they encountered the overwhelming hospitality extended by the Oklahomans. The principal of the local high school, one of the hosts, opened the school swimming pool for a private swim for his guests. Games, picnics, a buffet breakfast at the Panhandle University, all of these things added up to a lifetime experience. Aside from the experiences gained on the trip the Beaver County 4-H’ers, who were all required to pay their own way, learned about promotion and fund raising. Clubs in each community worked for several months tying quilts for drawings, selling candy and other promotional items and doing various service projects to raise money.
