In addition Chairman Lewis L. Strauss of the Atomic Energy Commission only last week predicted that the United States will be building atomic power plants all over the country after 1960. On the basis of this prediction he urged Congress to authorize a $500 million federal atomic accident insurance program to encourage construction of nuclear power plants by private industry. The Senate-Hous- e panel gave a picture of what it felt the uranium industry will become. Ten years from now, the report said, atomic energy will become a real factor in die industrial life of the nation. By 1960, they agreed, atomic energy will be a power source. Going a step further the panel states that research should be available by 1960 which could result in economically competitive atomic power plants coming into operation three to five years later, or around far-reachi- ng 11 LOIIIIAINI NEWS 431 Church PHM - CIRCULATION Phone DC Street ADVERTISING DC Box 2608 Salt Lake City, Utah Entered aa second claae matter at Salt Lake City, Utah, under Act of March 1 1879.
