At of May I Oth, every American will be on hit own, GRANITE BOARD DROPS TEACHER SMOKING BAN A long-tim- e ruling by the Granite School District Board of Education against smoking by teachers and other employes was canceled by the board Tuesday. A motion adopted by the group staled that "social drinking and smoking away from school property would hereafter not be the grounds for dismissal or refusal to hire an employe. The action was taken by the board during their meeting in the school offices. Large Group Attends A large group crowded into the offices to attend the session and many of them severely criticized no smoking polithe CUB SCOUTS TO SELL FLOWER CANS FOR DECORATION DAY HERE Pack 101 Cub Scouts will have small and large painted cans for sale at most reasonable prices for Decoration Day. There will be two places made available for the public to buy the cans. These include a stand in front of the Pleasant Green Ward on May 27, 28 and 29 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and on Main Street in Magna the same days and time. The public can also order the cans in advance and pick them up at 3170 South 8020 West or phone 2297 or 2178. The cans are painted green and n are equipped with wires. It will will be the second year a fashion show has been shown at Brock' bank, and it has proven to be very entertaining. Girls have worked hard on dresses, slacks, shorts, skirts, pajamas and blouses. The latest in fashion will be reviewed by them this Friday. THE y, ELKO SEEKS CYPRUS SETS FOR TIME MAGNA FOR ENTRY QUEEN 3 a mm AWARDS The annual Honor and Awards Assembly will be held at Cyprus High School on Monday, May 20, beginning at 2:30 p. m. in the school auditorium. This assembly is particuUrly in honor of the graduating seniors, but also provides an opportunity for the school to recognize all students who have excelled in various school activities during ''.he past school year. Representatives of the various colleges and universities will be on hand to award scholarships to deserving seniors, and other specialized schools and institutions will also make scholarship presentations. One of the highlighu of the program will be the awarding of the Hugh Cannon Memorial A ward annually presented by Mr. Ned Winder to the outstanding maU graduate from the Cyprus high school. On Saturday, April 27th, Mrs. Edna Mvyer saw flanu-- shooting up on the roof of our home at 2965 South 8600 West. She called the fire department and her sons. Craig Meyer and Duane Riley, ran to our house. Duane boosted Craig o the roof and he held a hose of running water upon the flames. Duane quickly climbed into the attic and with a blanket, kept the fire under control and also water from getting into the cloth.'s closet until the arrival of the fire depart- Its "Queen Time in Elko, and the Magna Chamber of Commerce is seeking a local entry to represent this community for the event on June 7th and 8th. Hosts of friends thronged the spacious site to pay their last respects to the fine man. Masses of beautiful flowers were further tributes to his memory. Prelude and postlude music was by Mrs. Paul Luckau.
