Thanksgiving Day Today, Utile Mrs. Y. Mori is an American citizen. She has been since a week ago Thursday. On that day, Mrs. Mori, along with many others, officially became a full participant in the activities of these United States, with all the privileges, rights and responsibilities of citizenship. This may not seem so remarkable, but Mrs. Mori's desire to be a citizen was always paramount and it was only recently that the United States government let Japanese born take the oath. As soon as our government passed the new law wherein Mrs. Mon could become a citizen, she started studying, and what she had to do would fill a good aized book. She studied, read and recited, until 1 dare wager she knows more about the history of the United States than you or L But she never gave up, never weakened, and last week she received her reward. There were a lot of others who became citizens the same day, but we bet none of them worked any harder to become a United States citizen than our friend, Mrs. Mori. Her story made us stop and think. We thought of all the good things we have, and how much we really have to be thankful for this Thanksgiving Day. Our high standard of living, our freedom of expression, the opportunity to expand and improve. We forget about it too much of the time, but we are fortunate members of a minority which enjoy an unusually good way of living. Sometimes it takes a story like Mrs. Mori's to jolt us into reality and realize how fortunate we are to be citizens of this great United States. A New Onal Psychologists and some practical parents probably would insist we shouldn't publish this bit of information but it proved so astonishing to me what some teenagers think of that 1 thought perhaps some parents might want to know why the car ashtrays look so scorched." It seems that a certain group of teenagers have found a new and highly hazardous method of arranging late date snacks. The trick is to stuff the car ashtray with Kleenex, set them afire and roast marsh mellows over the flame. We hope they live to tell about In Magna LDS WE LOOK BACK 331 YEARS Wardhoute Funeral rites were conducted 2:00 p. in. in the Wednesday, Magna LDS Ward Chapel for John (Jack) Lamb Gibbuns, 62, of 285 South Main Street. MAGNA MAN RETURNS FROM LDS MISSION Three Men File For Trustee Job In Magna All Other Auctions To Be Held At vicinity are to be apprehended Cyprus High TO FIND T1IE FIRST OF ALL OUR FREEDOMS ar All registered voters in this area are urged to vote next Wednesday, December 1st and cast their ballots fur a trustee, to serve Uie Magna Water Company for the next six years. Three men have filed for the position George Cromar, incumbent, E. J. Gardner and Phillip Debs, all Magna residents. The polls will be open from 7:00 a. m. to 8:00 p. m., at the places listed below. In the main, the general voting laws of Utah govern the election of trustees for water districts with certain exceptions which are created by the nature of the organization. In Magna, certain political districts are only partially included within the boundaries of the water district. Hence, it is necessary for the county clerk to provide the water district with poll books showing therein the names of registered voters. The statute provides that the county elerk shall provide poll books showing . these names. Explanation Given However, due to the press of tremendous work following the n general election, Mr. Alvin has not been able to furnish these books which would require a great deal of work to complete in a very short time. Therefore, some changes are necessary from the announcement made in the last issue of the Magna Times concerning voting places and districts. It was planned to combine 297 and 298 and 300 and 302, but that will be altered. All voters will vote in the same district December 1st as they did in the general election, November 2nd, to include: District 297 Webster School. District 298 Union Hall. District Church. . Dimtrict high school. District junior high school. Only residents living within the area of the Magna Water District in 297 and 302 will be allowed to vote for the water trustee. The boundaries of the Magna Water Improvement District are from 2600 to 3500 South streets and from 9200 to 8400 West streets, down the center of the street, so that only people living inside" the area may cast their vote for the position of trustee. Judges Given Judges are: 297- Mary E. Nielson, Nora Spence, Millie Christofferson. 298 Nola Munson, Pearl Apostle, Irene Bohnc. 299 Hattie Parks, Mary Lewis, Mrs. E. Arave. 300 Edith Breeze, Stella Mrs. Dick Norris. 302 Mrs. Frances Hansen, Mrs. George Denton and Mrs. A. And that was a et Property Damage Three separate auto crashes in Magna over the weekend resulted in several car occupants being injured and occurrence of considerable property damage, according to a report released by the sheriffs office. On Saturday, at 10:30 p. m., a car driven by John A. Lyons, 997 East 400 South, Provo, literally plowed into an embankment of dirt at 8400 West and 3080 South, caused by sewer construction. The embankment was well lit by flares, and sheriffs say the accident occurred because of negligent driving. Mr. Lyons suffered a cut lip and another occupant of the car, Joan Spencer Hendricks, 544 Thorne Court, Salt Lake City, had serious mouth injuries and cuts. They were treated by Dr. E. G. Whittaker of the Magna beginning. The land was big. Big enough to absorb a lot of freedom-hungr- y people from a lot of places; big enough for this first freedom to fertilize some daring thoughts in a mans mind before the kings police could get to him. Big enough to hatch out strange new freedoms. Freedom to own a farm. Freedom to worship God. Freedom to elect your own assemblyman. Freedom to speak, to write, to print . .freedom to deny the king, to move west if you didnt like it east to be your own master even if your face was black, to join a union, to live in any street you choose, to go to any church or stay away. And always down the centuries the people remembered, sometimes dimly, sometimes with burning urgency, the freedom that colored all the others and gave them dimension and validity. . . the freedom to worship God.
