Show THE BULLETIN Wardrobe of College Girl Has Underweight g Attractive, Styles Child Needs More Exercise A Matter of Expense Pace-Settin- By RICHARD HILL WILKINSON By DR. JAMES W. BARTON y (Released by Western Newspaper Unun.1 HEN the federal highway de- partment decided to divert the preient courie of the Cape road, and build a new cement highway directly through the center of Hill-aidthe little village, heretofore Isolated, suddenly realized that it was to be placed on display, so to speak, for the benefit of the tourists. Del Ripley, chairman of the town finance committee, immediately vpon hearing news of the proposed new road, summoned together each and every one of Hillside's citizenry, and expounded thusly: "Fellow citizens, we are about to emerge from the obscurity of a remote and heretofore unnoticed country village, to become a large lettered word on automobile road maps. The federal highway department has definitely decided to extend the new Cape road through the very heart of our town. What does before of the 1HAVE spoken of recruits who were rejected for war service because the chest was too e, this mean? It means prosperity! It means we will be noticed! "We must." Del continued, "be fair. We must take advantage of our golden opportunity. "Every man who owns property bordering on the proposed highway must vie with his neighbor in beautifying his home. Every man whose home is located in the outskirts must voluntarily devote a part of each day toward repairing and improving the appearance of our public edifices and property." Del paused again and the response, save one, was unanimously in agreement with the suggestion. The change in the town's main thoroughfare was remarkable and swift Houses were painted, lawns mowed and raked, fences repaired. There remained now only the clean ing up after the road was completed and the property of one Jebidiah Spencer. Jebidiah' s property occupied one of the most conspicuous locations on the new road. It was an old, ram-shackled house, dilapidated and bad ly in need of repair. While the others worked, Jeb slept and watched with mused fascination. By contrast his property became even more drab and forlorn looking. Del The situation was serious. Ripley consulted with other mem bers of the town government "We can't make him fix up the house,1 said Phil Baker gloomily. "It's his and he can do what he likes with it" small. Practi cally every one TODAY'S of these young HEALTH fellows, on questioning, stated COLUMN we can keep him there we'll all take hold and fix up the place ourselves. Then we'll threaten Jeb; tell him we won't let him out till he promises to keep the place in good A splendid idea. Everyone agreed that Del had hit upon the right plan. Forthwith, in company with Con stable Harry Brown, they marched up to Jeb's place, briefly explained the situation, and paraded him off to jaiL Jeb went peaceably enough. In fact'he seemed to enjoy the little episode. They installed him safely in the town lockup and went away. Jeb lay down and slept Meantime Hillside's enthusiastic boosters hied themselves to Jeb's property and set to work. Inside of a week the house shone and glis tened with new white paint The lawn was mowed, the fence re paired. Almost overnight, it seemed, the place was transformed from a shabby, ramshackle hut Into a cute and charming cottage. Del Ripley, immensely pleased with himself, accompanied by Phil Baker. Nate Harding, and Constable Brown, marched back to the jail and confronted Jeb. "Jeb." said Del seriously, "you've been here a week now, and must be kind of sick of it We've fixed up your place to look respectable. And now we'll let you out on one That you promise to condition: keen tout property in good re pair." Jeb stretched luxuriously on his cot "Why, I sort of like it here, Del. I don't mind staying." Del looked troubled. "You mean you Just as soon stay in jail?" "Why. sure. Nothin to do but eat and sleep. I don't mind." Del was puzzled. Nate Harding scratched his head and called the others into conference. "Look here, DeL It'll cost us more to keep that jigger in jail than it will to let him out and hire a man to keep his place looking welL" Del began to feel a little weak. He hadn't thought of this possibility Worse yet If ate was right It would cost almost twice as much to keep Jeb in JaiL And beside that, they'd have to hire some one to keep the nlace UP. The town government members talked sadly for a moment or two, finally returned to Jeb's cell. "We're going to let you out, Jeb. But unless you keep that place of yours up to snuff back in you go. It- -" paused, interrupted by a healthy snore. Jebidiah was sleep ing soundly. Del lfiifPATTiw f Yif"ilr EAT COYEft- y1! I WORN) SEAM OUTftOf with cjwty 0,m JL CUT MRS. Marshall, Appleton, Wis., in the Journal of Investigative Der matology (skin diseases), reports his use of boiled liver extract in the treatment of 14 cases of acne in which he obtained satisfactory re sults. The injection of liver extract six drops is given so that a suf ficient amount of the specific (or needed) vitamin may be had. When injectable liver extract is boiled for 30 minutes, its fac tor seems to increase. "When this boiled extract is given to patients already taking liver extract regular ly, their improvement appears more rapid." This means then that to our pres ent knowledge of the beneficial ef fects of injection of pitui tary extract and taking viosterol by mouth, is added the further knowl edge that the use of liver extract boiled for 30 minutes and injected under the skin also cures many cases of acne. acne-improvi- Patriotism Theme Becoming Popular New is the purse mounted on a wide shoulder band as pictured.
