FRIDAY, APRIL 29, 1938 VOL. Celebration Parade A Huge Success All Salt Lake City found out that Sugar House was on the map and how. At 10:30 a. m. the parade consisting of cars from all the business houses in Sugar House started down town with an escort of traffic policemen and headed by the fire engine from our station they went west on 21st South to Main street then up to South Temple street, then along south Temple to 9th East then back to Sugar House. Did they make noise? Every horn and siren was and residents along the line tooting came from blocks around to see the Maxwell's float which was parade. one of the prettiest in the procession threw rosea out along the way for the pedestrians. The Apex Electric discoursed popular music along the way through a loud speaker on top of their car. Cleyon Dress Shop had a bevy of young beauties displaying their wares. Peerless Laundry had all their delivery wagons out letting the people know how to keep clean. The coal companies were represented by coal trucks. Griep Sheet Metal Works had a boat on top of their car and attracted a great deal of favorable comment. Firmage Shoe store had a very pretty display advertising the Red Goose shoes. Granite Drug had a car with large signs on each side. In fact almost every business was represented. Oh, yes! The furniture repair and restuffing shop had a load of their goods on parade. The Arctic Ice Co. had a bevy of their trucks In too. If we fall to mention all it la unintentional All in all, Sugar House was on the map and went to town Saturday. Merchants Asked To Help Correct Parking Problem Appealing to the merchants for more cooperation in keeping their pwn cars and those of employees off the streets during the shopping hours, in order that the conjeated traffic condition In Sugar House might be relieved, a bpeclal committee of business men started a drive Monday morning and plan to make a personal visit to every Sugar House merchant to enlist his aid, according to Grant Midgley, chairman of the committee on traffic appointed by the Sugar House Chamber of Commerce. The drive started after a visit to the district Monday by Captain O. B. Record, who explained to officers of the Chamber of Commerce unless the situation was relieved within a short time, the traffic department would find it necessary to make a limited parking time effective. Promotions to Lcuitenants on the Salt Lake City Fire Department were awarded to Oscar Carlson and Hugh Latimer, both located at the Sugar House Fire station, Thursday, according to advice from the departments headquarters. Mr. Latimer has seen fifteen years of service on the department, spending a number of them at the local station, while Oscar Carlson has been with the department thirteen years, spending all of them at Sugar House. The promotions came about after the two men successfully passed rigid examinations given by the fire department Wednesday.
