Show THE PARK Wednesday, March 20 974 1 CITY MOONLIGHT TOUR Cross Country with Kran March 6th was the night of the full moon. Two of us, Pam Morrow and myself decided to take a tour through some of the high country. We started out at 11 p.m. and finished at 3 a.m. We were equipped with mat- ches, warm clothing, and snowshoes. Surprisingly enough, warm clothing wasnt necessary that night. The night the was warm with a cool breeze blowing through the canyon. We started off for the Lake Flats area and up Guardsmans Pass through the woods. Moonlight touring is a very sensual and imaginative way to ski. Everything you ski, you ski by feel. The sound of your ski sliding across the crusty yet light snow may be the only thing you hear. However, there are many sounds, shadows, and powers working together in a world of black and white. We began to lose all sense of time and realized we were in the continuous present in between the ticks of a clock. But endangered does not mean extinct. It tells us that the animal still lives. Compared to extinct, endangered is a word of hope. . . for in many cases, if a species is endangered it can be saved. We Care About Endangered Wildlife" is the theme for National Wildlife Week this 17 23. March week, Sponthrough sored by the National Wildlife Federation, National Wildlife Week has three special aims according to Federation Executive Vice President Thomas L. Kimball. They are: to draw public attention to the many problems facing our threatened wildlife ; to reemphasize the pric eless importance of our wildlife heritage; and to help people realize that an endangered species does not have to become extinct." Five of the endangered species on the official endangered native fish and wildlife list are found in Utah: the Peregrine falcon, humpback chub, woundfin, Colorado squawfish and the Utah prairie dog. All species are protected by law. Studies of the Peregrine falcon are being conducted by a Brigham Young University professor. The Utah prairie dog has been transplanted to a new sites on public lands. The three fish species are protected in the Wildlife. Resources fishing proclamation. The light from the fire drew approximately eight snowmobiles around our area and down about four hundred feet. They couldn't figure out what the flickering was in the trees.
