As a general physician, was interviewed after last weeks reporting of the Tic and Typhoid Clinic. The Coalition wanted to give residents more in- regarding actual formation Typhoid dangers in this area. Dr. Cook says that there is no need to fear Park Citys water supply. It is clean; but, un- controlled water supplies, such as lakes and streams are reason for concern. Campers and hikers and those who may travel out of the country should certainly have the shots. The exceptions are those adults and children who have eczema and asthma. (The reaction from the shot will be 6 fever and soreness from hours after the injection ) . Dr. Cook strongly recommends taking the tic shots. He reports intermittent cases of Rocky Mountain .Spotted Fever and Colorado Tic Fever in the area over the last few years.. Sheep are the carriers of the tics and because Park City has been an area of tremendous sheep traffic, we know that there are tics here. Tic fever can be treated, but again, it is much easier to prevent than treat. It takes six weeks for the tic shot to be an effective preventative. That is why the clinics are being held now before the snow melts. If you have any questions concerning the clinic, call your physician, school nurse, or Dr. John H. Cook. 24-3- . Place your , slightly tilted, toward the tail of your skis. As you bring the straight edge up the straight edge-- ski, sight along your base, looking for irregularities. If you see light in the center of the straight edge, then you skis are concave and have a tendency to track too much, obeying the edge characteristics rather than the skis flex pattern. If you see light toward the ends of the straight edge then your skis are convex and might act squirrelly. Be sure to check the whole ski. Many times there will.be specific bad areas, especially convex spots which might go unnoticed with a fast check. As you checked your ski, you probably noticed whether or not it had any big gouges or deep scratches in the P-tbase, and these will need to be taken care of when you do the rest of your base work. , , , , , , , FEATURING THE ONLY CHINESE FOOD IN TOWN! , , open early and we close late. 6:00 a.m. until midnight, Mon. thru Fri. 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., Fri. and Sat. The more burrs or rust the greater the need for work. Are your edges sharp? Test them by scraping your fingernail across the edges in various places. If your edges are sharp, you should get a small fingernail shaving on the edge. After completing all of these checks, which should only take a few minutes at the most, you will probably have a good idea as to the condition of your skis. If your skis need work, Ill be explaining some of the different solutions to these ski base problems in the next issue. Dusty Orrell (Dusty operates the Cornice Ski Repair in the Cest Bon Hotel.)
