Show SALT FLAT NEWS, NOVEMBER, 1970 6 In Memory of tSie Lady of tike Lake jgf Saltair, a once world re- knowned resort oh the shore of the Great Salt Lake, burned to the ground this month. Noted for its unusual Moorish architecture, the fabled resort was a meeting place for all, from children to politicians. The mammoth structure was plagued with problems and calamities and in recent years was taken over by the state and banished to ob livion. One group tried to restore the Lady of the Lake. Before it could, fire claimed what was left. Below is a 1920 picture of Saltair bathers floating in the salt water. To the right, a night view taken in 1919. Below it is an aerial photo, circa 1935, showing the giant roller coaster, piers and numerous buildings. |
