Show Do-It-You- rilRIST Project rself In rcr pul weeks and months residents of the Holladay area have appeared liefore the county commission to defend their lieJiefs in requested zoning changes. Other groups have appeared lx'fori the country n creation Imard to reipiesl tenuis courts and parks for the aixM. One group invited nqiivsent.ilives of government units to In' on a pane) to discuss nvivaliori needs of llieir aiea. ' limit'll of iIipm groups had to go to men who linvp no immediate interest in the affairs of the Ilolladay area except for the voting jwivver (hat lies here. When the Ilolladay Linus ('lull tried to get support for a library to lie built hen they were told that to have a library in this area there would have to lie an increase in the mill levy to provide such a facility. Residents of this area have Itcen contributing llieir tax money to the library rpill levy for many ynis and have received nothing in return. The chances of gaining anything fmm an increase in the levy would continue to lie slim. Thorp aiv areas throughout the county that have taken the initiative and helped themselves to get many of the things that are needed in the Ilolladay area. These areas have done this by organizing community councils, by binding together the civic clubs in a united effort to truly supiMirt the community. Others have incorporatml llieir areas and formed towns and cities that they could have truly representative government. The Price Rescheduled JCs SupporLf niiiuii The forces of consolidation are at work again, pursutheir ing policy of one thing at a time. A consolidated health deartmeiit is their first objective, and some areas of agreement were reached, hut there was no city-coun- ty agreement on finances. The trouble is, of rourse, that a combined operation is too expensive. The county sees its cost going up. and thinks the city isnt paying enough; the city faces rising costs too, and is convinced that the county is not paying its way. Salt lake wants a building in the city; the county wants the building south of Murray. It is obvious that neither could lie efficient for both. Midvales board of health costs jumped ns soon as the two departments began to cooperate. We want no more of such cooperation liecnuse we cant afford it. E.
