Authorization also was given to Marshal Henry Dipo to buy two new Dodge police cars. A bulk of the new work at the treatment plant, beginning immediately, which will greatly increase service to the city, will consist of construction of a new digester tank and digester, operating building, and modification of existing sewage plant piping in order to improve operations. Other work is scheduled, and completion date has been set for some time in the spring. It was concluded that 2nd West will hold up if these regulations are strictly enforced. The target of enforcement will be trucks hauling 33,000 pound loads on single or close axle. Granddaddy Exams Can Be Taken At Highland High For the accommodation of holders of granddaddy automobile licenses living in Sugar House and the Southeast area, and for any others who wish to avail themselves of the opportunity, the Utah State Drivers License Division will conduct the necessary eye examinations at Highland High School from 7 to 9 p.m. on November 2. George Miller, director of the division, advises that any individual whose eye test must be taken prior to November 2 must, before that date, go to the State Capitol or the fairgrounds to take the test. If the test is not taken prior to the date of expiration, the individual holder will have to take a new driver's license examination. Vern Bolinder Granite Board Moves for Civil Defense Program At a meeting of the Granite School District Board of Education Tuesday a night, stop-ga- p members adopted civil defense program to serve until a practicable system for the schools can be developed. The plan, which was presented to the board by Dr. Ted T. Peterson, administrative assistant to Supt. Elmer J. Hartvigson, calls for each school to check to see that it has an adequate warning system using bells and another for use without bells and without electricity, and that on hand is a battery radio to receive Conelrad instructions. Other requirements include: an exit and alternate exit plan; an evacuation plan; education in the use of normal classroom equipment for protection, and psychological reduction of fear and excitement which could cause personality changes. The board also opened 10 bids for the general contract, nine for the mechanical, and six for the electrical on the Taylorsville Garden School, to be built at 1850 West 4230 South. Construction awards were made to the Fredrick-so- n Builder Supply and Conde-fsen- se struction Company, general contract at $375,000; Brown Plumbing and Heating, Pay-somechanical contract at $84,782, and Wasatch Electric Co., electrical contract at for a total cost of the elementary school building of S491.032. Effort will be made to meet a construction deadline by August, 1962. Mayor Bolinder has been a resident of South Salt Lake for 39 years and has operated businesses in the city for over 30 years. At the present time he is vice president of the Associated Electronic Engineers. He was a member of the Grocers Association and served as president in 1939. Mayor Bolinder was a member of the Granite School District Board of Education for 13 years and president of the board in 1945 and 1950. Mayor and Mrs. Bolinder, who reside at 110 East Robert Avenue, are the parents of three sons and a daughter. Mr. Oreno, who has been in charge of the Streets and Sewer Department, points out (Continued on Page 4) - South S.L Appoints New Deputy Marshal Claude Wells, Jr., 2G, of 1789 East 1700 South has been appointed as a deputy marshal and assigned to the traffic division of the South Salt Lake Police Department, it is announced by Marshal Henry Dipo. Another deputy is to be named, the two, to replace Norm Kay and Bob White who were activated this month when the 144th Evacuation Hospital unit of the Utah National Guard was called to active duty. Mr. Wells, who assumed his new duties Thursday, was a member of the Rait Lake City Police Department Reserve Corps. |
