Those who seeks to provide happiness for the at the expense of the producers need to appoint some fence riders. The proponents of the Welfare State have created problems that, they have no capacity to deal with. non-produc- ers This is not the opinion of this writer, nor is it quoted by the editors of the scholarly Modem Age, A magazine, Conservative Review, but is somewhat regretfully recorded by Mr. Gunnar Myrdal who says in his book, Beyond the Welfare State, From Welfarism to Chaos, that the Welfare State encourages selfishness . . . has produced international disintigration . . . It does produce inflation and so on. Mr. Myrdal is not by any means a conservative nor is he to be found in the republican camp. He is most noted as a champion of the left camp. Yes, the fences of the left need mending . . . but it is now 14 oclock and there is little time for fence mending especially with such gaps as made by one of their own prophets. The review of Mr. Myrdals book in the MODERN AGE was penneCT'by Willmoore Ken- dall. Another article in this rock which should be read by all, is The Restoration of Tradition which points out that there are basic premises which are not subject to change, there are truths which are the growing experience of man which are not subject to change. The author, Mr. Stanley Parry, presents his polemic in a clear and understandable manner. On Saturday, May 1$, the following new books will be added to the shelves of the Calvin S. This instruction, familiar to all airline passengers, should become as equally to automobile drivers and passengers, according to the Traffic Education Committee of the Utah Safety Council. The committee is conducting a special emphasis campaign for use of auto seat belts throughout the month of May. Auto dealers and seat belt distributors are offering special sales on the belts and installation services during the month. Civic and service clubs are making special announcements at club meetings, and business and industrial plants are en- -. couraging their use at company and plant meetings. The use of seat belts, if widely used in the State of Utah could save perhaps 100 lives each year, the Council estimated. This estimate is based upon national studies which have conclusively demonstrated that injuries and deaths are reduced up to 60 per cent among persons involved in accidents who were using the belts at the time the mishaps occurred. The Council reported that many drivers have expressed opposition to use of the belts, for various reasons. Each of their reasons, upon analysis, was shown to be baseless in fact, as discussed in the May issue of Traffic Safety Magazine of the National Safety well-kno- wn Page South Salt Lake Giamber To Inspect East-We- st Freeway The South Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce will inspect the Federal Highway system which is directly involved with South Salt Lake.
