Show Page 4 South Salt Lake News July 17, 1969 OPEN HOUSE FOR BOYS RANCH Utah Boys Ranchers are anxiously looking forward to your visit at the Ranch. It Is their way os saying thanks to their many friends who have provided them a home and a future with promise. Six years ago Utah Boys Ranch was only a dream of a few Individuals close to the problems of boys. Today Utah Ranch Is a hustling, Boys bustling, gorwlng concern, filling a long necessary need by providing boys a home regardless of race or creed. Located at 3800 West 6200 South In the calley of the Great Salt Lake, the ranch accepts boys between the ages of eight and fourteen, However, they may stay at the ranch all the way through high school. Construction of the first home began on July 18, 1964 when Rex Allen TV star, recording artist, and rodeo performer, broke the ground. The first boys arrived at Utah Boys Ranch in Septebmer of 1964 and lived in temporary quarters while the home was being completed. In July of 1965 the first home was occupied at the present ranch site. At the Annual Open House, will be able to visit both you home and all of the ranch facilities. Your tour guides will be the Utah Boys Ranch- ers themselves. You will also have the opportunity to see the major advan- ces in the physical facilities during the past year which includes completion of the recreation room, the Fraternal Order of Eagles' craft and boy scout room, East Mill Creek Lions' activity room, corral and sheds, and the landscaping. The Fifth Annual Open House will provide you the opportunity to share in the Utah Boys Ranch reality. The UBR story has been made real by the help of many, many fine friends. During the three day celebration hundreds of citizens toured the complex. A sell out climaxed the three days was the Glen Campbell show playing to over 13,000 people Friday Gov. Calvin Rampton headed a group of prominent speakers lauding the completion of the complex. Several hundred attended a giant banquet held on the big arena floor and enjoyed a concert by the Salt Lake City Philharmonic Orchestra. Earl L. Duryea, manager of the complex, said engineers were working on the sound system after a number of complaints had been registered. He said they will continue until all "bugs are removed. The Most Rev. Joseph Lennox Federal, bishop of Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City, offered the invocation before the banquet. John W. Galllvan, publisher of the Salt Lake Tribune acted as master of ceremonies and was Introduced by McCowi E. Hunt, chairman of the Salt Palace board. Gov. Rampton praised the Salt Lake County Commission, the board of directors and everyone else Involved in the civic auditorium dream. Commissioner Philip Blom-qui- st praised former County Commissioner Marvin G.Jen-- 4 on for his tenacious spirit in making a dream come true. Saturday visitors viewed the arena, exhibit and assembly halls and little theatre. Construction of the huge complex began March 10, 1967. It has facilities for rodeos, circuses, stage plays, sporting events, horse shows, and many other events as well as conventions. The Salt Lake Golden Eagles hockey team will play all it's home games in the large arena. Formal dedication of the entire complex was held Sunday at 3 p.m. President N.
