Textbook Commission State Board of Education headquarters here. The State Course of Study Committee-Textbook Commission is the legal agency in Utah for establishing the aims, purposes, Objectives and philosophy of public education, explains Dr. Lerue Winget. deputy in state school superintendent of instruction. charge The agency also is responsible for determining courses of study and selecting extbooks to be used in the schools, Dr. Winget said. Members of the commission include Dr. T.H. Bell, state school superintendent, who serves as chairman; Dr. Oral L. Ballam, dean of the College of Education at Utah State University; Dr. Stephen P. Hncley dean of the State College of Education, University of Utah; Superintendent T. Lavoy Esplin of Washington School District; Superintendent Sherman G. Eyre of Logan School District; Superintendent Ber-ne- ll Wrigley, Davis Distrlct;and the following persons recently reappointed to the commission by Governor Calvin L. Rampton: Mrs. Loretta Cline, Salt Lake City; Dr. McRay Cloward, College of Southern Utah, Cedar City; Mrs. E.E.Ericksen, Salt Lake City; Harold A. Schlueter, Heber City, and Karl Shlsler, Roosevelt Dr. Winget serves as secretary to the commission. Committees of educators appointed by the commission currently are evaluating new textbooks submitted by publishers for possible adoption. The official meeting for the formal adoption of textbooks is scheduled November 26.
