Burton Ward Central Park Ward The three First grades of the Madison School have been working on a new basic reading series called The Merrill Linguistic Series". Jt has been very successful and rewarding both to the children and the teachers. The children have progressed on the whole very rapidly in this series. This is a series of six books with no pictures in them. The purpose of this series is (1) a listening and meaning vocabulary, (2) a speaking vocabulary, (3) a reading vocabulary and (4) a writing vocabulary. They get a strong language, (oral and written, phonics and reading foundation in this series). In fact, it is rather a fantastic and fabulous series for first graders. In place of the May Festival which is to be May 6, the kindergartens and first grades have planned a special parent or Mother's Day program. The first grade program, under the direction of Mrs. Cummings, Mrs. Page and Mrs. Smith was given Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., May 10; with songs, dances ana toy orchestras, as an outcome of their years work.
