The of the social assurance of individual security is the measure of progress and to the extent that this is lacking there is disorder and chaos. In the relatively changeless world of the hand labor age the ecopeople found a place in nomics of the period and within their individual sphere they moved and lived. Individual served t o accomplishment this create and maintain economic of security assurance but in a period of mass production and short purchasing power it does not do so and only a public nr popular guar antee of production for all can attain this purpose now. If an economic sj'stera can d afford the production of a in million dollars a year goods and produce it can afford the purchase medium for the consumption of these goods and produce. And to the extent that it fails to do so there is disemployment and a wasting world. hnn-dre- An economic democracy will maiLtain among the people a dollar in purchase medium for each dollar in goods and produce produce available for consumption. Any margin between incomes and prices will flow to the people for the purchase of produced goods and in the day that it does so as an established policy of public finance social security will bp attained and maintained. In this age of the power machine when the cultural inheritance of mankind is so vastly greater than in previous years a program of resettlement compensation in the nature of a social income to all the people locating within resettlement areas is a logical proposal. These anas may be classified as to existing population and income and a part of the social credit account apportioned to each area to be distributed in equal amount to each residant of the area. This allocation of national income will result in a distribution of population over larger areas socially desirable to city, town and country district. PROFIT SYSTEM (Continued from page one) power as worms and insects to be trampled and scorned. The lives of billions of human beings have been sacrificed to men whose only aim was to obtain more.v and power. By this class of men large cities have been built which obscure the sunlight, shut out green fields, deprive the inhabitants of the beauties of nature and hasten them on the road to physical and mental decay with smoke-polute- air, disease-po-lutwater and food and lack of stimulating activitiesforbody and brain. ed PUBLICDOINGS 0. Nine men were shot and wounded at Anderson, Ind., as Homer Martin, president of the United VIOLENCE Automobile Workers of America, a CL L O. affiliate, stopped in the city to address a masa meeting. The wounded men, of the union, claimed a member had opened fire upon them with a shotgun from n window in Union hall after an exchange of insults. Union members charged attempts had been made to injure the amplifying apparatus which was to carry Martin's words to the throng. Martin was en route to Monroe, Mich., where 200 World war veterans had been deputized to prevent picketing of the Newton iteel plant, controlled by Republic Steel, whose plants have borne the brunt of the C. I. O. campaigns in the last few weeks. The vigilantes, armed with rifles, revolvers and machine guns, were determined that the local Steel Workers Organizing Committee was not going to make good its threat to close the Newton plant with a mob of thousands of C. I. O. picketera from Detroit. The Monroe deputies broke up a picket line and the plant to loyal employes; after that the local C. I. O. union made arrangements to import picket! from outside the city. Despite the impending trouble a battalion of Michigan national guardsmen, ordered to the scene by Gov. Frank Murphy, disbanded, leaving the task of mainrs shot-gun- s, taining the peace to the regular police force and deputies. At the South Chicago plants of Youngstown and Inland 4,000 pickets were massed by C. I. O. leaders, who anticipated that attempts would be made by Independent unions to break through the lines keeping the plants closed. At Youngstown, Ohio, the city council thought it detected storm clouds of new strike violence and voted to allow Mayor Lionel Evans to hire and equip what additional emergency police he thought would be necessary. Labor unions in sympathy with C. L O. threatened to retaliate by declaring a citywide labor holiday" or general strike. Unions in Canton, Ohio, did likewise. CIO Starfs at Bottom JOHN L.
