Another important road In our estimation one of the more significant - thtngft to happen in tle Four Comers since the first of the year was. the agreement to connect Colorado and Utah with a paved highway in the Aneth area. We feel that both Colorado and Utah will benefit more from the decisiAp to meet each other in the Aneth area than if Utah, had built south to connect with Arizona. ' The decision to construct an east west road out of road out of Utah was Utah rather than a nprth-sout- h ywnift after Arizona fouled to attend a recent meeting in Salt Lake City. Colorado, on the other hand, was in meeting Utah with reagy and willing to a spur from the Four ' Corners road now under con-- co-opera- te struction. For Utah it means an outlet to the east which will atopen up Southeast Utahs many and varied scenic tractions. Travelers from Mesa Verde, which numbered about 223,000 persons, last year, now will have an opportunity to drive over a shorter route into Southeast em Utah. Before the east-we- st connection was conceived and agreed on, tourist? wdre faced with driving a longer distance or else driving over unpaved roads in a somewhat remote area. Blit once the road is completed it will offer an route through the oil fields to Monument Valley, Natural Bridges, the Goosenecks and other Utah ! scenic areas. For the Indians in the Aneth area it means an outlet to reach their markets to the east and also 'opens up a potential labor market for farmers, miners and other industries that can use Indian labor. For the oil industry it means a paved road through the heart of the Aneth. oil field. For communities ;in both Southeastern Utah and Southwestern Colorado it opens up new trade areas. Workers in the oil field now will have an opportunity to drive either to Blanding or Cortez on a paved road Truckers also will benefit from a paved road through the oil field. In light of these advantages to all the communities in: the Four Comers we believe that an important step has been taken id furthering the progress of this m all-weat- it and beoomes aware of her . the of its potentialities. together, to build theirmethomes near there to favored plaoe, unless they have Wherever men have drawn each other in some fight eaeh other like eats and dogs for the most favored positions and the most attractive opportunities the plaoe affordedN they have begun at onoe to enjoy facilities and oonvenieneesl) not within their reaoh when. living Just a few in plaoes far apart.
