Fairbanks The week proceeding the 7th annual womens conference, there were Executive and Board of Director meetings of the National Federation of Republican Women. Mrs. Helen Brown attended the meetings in place of Mrs. Evelyn Williams. Thursday morning April 9th . Registration; Executive board meetings, and Standing committee meetings were held. Utah was assigned the public relations meeting. Mrs. Richard Simpson (Illinois) was the chairman of the eight woman committee. They exchanged ideas and drew a conclusion to extend the Federation activties to civic goals and to include the Federated Republican Womens clubs in public service to the community. There was animated discussion of. the radio, television and newspaper media and the many possibilities of approach to the voting pub- That afternoon Mrs. Hardin was sworn in and the entire board of directors were present After the swearing in ceremonies the group was invited into the postmaster generals office. The Republican Womens Federation was asked to help in the abolishment of obscene literature from the mails. That evening there was a lovely buffet supper with Mrs. Clair Williams as hostess. At the dinner meeting was held a Regional Director Meeting. It was decided at this meeting rather than holding Regional State meetings, National would financially aid in the procurement of speakers to each local state meeting. An open invitation was extended to all women in the western region to hear Vice President Richard M. Nixon at the National Young Republican Convention in Denver this June. After the buffet supper, Mrs. Brown attended with Mrs. Larue B. Jex, the Open House given by the national committee for the chairman and Mrs. Meade Alcorn and the Senator and Mrs. Thruston Morton (Kentucky) also were in attendance. Mr. Judd reported the following information:" The new chairman, Mr. Thurston Morton, senator from Kentucky, will follow the nine project plan for victory. He has asked Mrs. Clair Williams to stay on as his assistant chairman. He will work with the executive committee. Representative Simpson . (Ill-R- ) will be the campaign chairman for the House of Representatives. Senator Barry Goldwater will be the campaign chairman for the Senate.
