Why Senior GOP Clubs? 23 Million More Votes Research figures show that by 1960 there will be 23 million citizens over the age of 60; this is our recommended starting age for Senior Republicians. All of these are potential voters; studies of voting behavior show that older voters use their suffrage more regularly them do young age groups. THEY CARE MORE. In past elections, the older group of voters has consistently voted Republican (these pollster figures use only as beginning for the older group Age 50; nevertheless, the presentation is still meaningful and valid). The sharp decline (from the Gallup Poll of October 31, 1958 in the percentage of those over 50 who planned to support Republican candidates) illustrates the necessity of bringing older voters back into the fold of inaugurating some program to reach this ever increasing segment of our by Madge H. IN OTHER WORDS, ALMOST ONE OUT OF EVERY FOUR POTENTIAL VOTERS WILL BE OVER 60 YEARS OF AGE BY 19601 The Senior Republican Clubs would bring into our basic Party Organization a group of staunch Republicans of long standing loyalty. The 23 million Americans age 60 and older have received no specific recognition from either Party. While we recognize that many of them are, fortunately,, already members of established Republican clubs, we hope that this will be an additional avenue of service to the Party for them and give them a new feeling of being wanted and needed to those who have had no previous club affiliation. In 1960, the White House Conference on the Aging will provide not only valuable material for Senior Republican Club programs and a tremendous impetus for the organization as a whole, but should yield valuable publicity benefits; therefore, our organization should be strongly entrenched prior to that Conference. SENIOR CITIZENS HAVE leisure in abundance; ripened and unimpaired executive and productive capacity as more and more in retirements are coming about at an ever-earliage, substan-itial many cases, today, age 60 or on 55. Many of them have ability backed by a lifetime of experience and know-ho- w; 65-6- er 2, incomes. SENIOR CITIZENS NEED a sense of continued importance and of belonging, which means doing something constructive and useful; they need to be both busy and wanted. SENIOR CITIZENS CAN GIVE US a large potential vote; manpower for the chores of election and Party projects; a new source of funds; a new avenue for spreading the Republican . story.
