Show YOUNG REPUBLICAN ? THE UTAH STATESMAN Friday, September 19, 1958 Fare 3 YR QUOTES Dawson Stresses By Rep. William A. Dawson The role of the Young Republicans in Utah The fifln be decisive in the coming election. recent primary indicates that our opponents have done a better job this year than recently in getting their people to the polls. The comparatively light Republican vote indicates that there is a good deal of apathy in our party. During the next few weeks, there will be those who will try to promote this apathy by falsely maintaining that there is no difference between the two major parties. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is the Young Republicans that must help do the job of showing the people the difference. After six years of a Republican Administration, we all tend to forget how things were before President Eisenhower took office We were in 1952 deeply involved in a bloody war in Korea, apparently with no 'hope of victory. Doctors and dentists, vitally needed in their communities, were being drafted whole-- , sale and in many instances their talents were wasted in unnecessary military assignments. There was the Office of Price Stabilization employing hundreds of thousands of federal policemen whose stated purpose was to prevent prices from rising. The OPS succeded only in stifling our economic progress. Meanwhile, . prices increased 27 during the Truman Administration. Contrast T952 with today. We are at peace. We now are strong enough to meet any threat. Employment, wages and standards-o- f living are at an alitime high. The OPS is forgotten. Wo must protect these gains. The 85th Congress 'has just plunged billion us $12 further in debt. This inflationary action would have been at least $8 billion greater if Presidential vetoes and Republican opposition had not stopped some of the wilder new spending schemes. This is the story the Young Republicans must tell. It must be told to their neighbors. It is particularly important that it be told to first voters those who cannot remember the regimentation of OPS, the war in Korea, the scandals in Washington The contrast between us and our opponents is plain. They offer bigger government to buy votes. We offer a government who feels its power is restricted to seeing that all have a chance to prosper and develop in accordance with their ambition and talents. -- Demo-craitic-controCl- ed In the ultimate that is the difference between tyranny and freedom. Carrying this message to your friends and neighbors, explaining this difference to the first voter, that is the job of the Young Republicans. First of all to mention example in our own state; YRs should have in each voting precinct one YR to work with the voting district chairman and his committee. The responsibility of that Young Republican should be to make note of First Voters and Young Republicans in his district. When this is done contact can be made and a YR committee can be set up to work with First Voters. MRS. MADGE FAIRBANKS . . . receives YR honors. by La Verle M.
