Me-Ado- of the race. Perhaps even greater significance Is the tenor of a reported recent interview given by Senator George W. Morris, Progressive leader in Omaha. Senator Norris said: "Governor A1 Smith, of New York, la, of coarse, handicapped by his and because he is a wet I believe, however, that he is honest and that he is a genuine progressive. I am a Protestant and a dry, yet I would support a man who was wet and a Catholic, provided I believed he was sincerely in favor of law enforcement and was right oa economic issues." The radical dry who is reactionary on everything else will, of course, inn voke the thunders of League excommunication for the senators chastening. But it reasonably may be believed that Senator Norris was expressing the enlightened opinion of many cltlsens grown weary of recrudescent bigotry and intolerance. la Ohio the Indications appear to be that Governor Smith is to profit by the attitude of Governor Donahey, who adheres to his blunt sometimes statement: "I don't know enough to be a Mr. Steaacker was visibly embarrassed Friday morning when he waa cloeely questioned by Mr. Stewart regarding identification of the throe women. It also is declared upon good au- thority that former Senator Pomerene Is to play a conspicuous part in the Smith movement la Ohio. That the Smith campaign In the state soon is to get under way, aad that Senator Pomerene this week arrived from his European tour, gives some color to the truth of the report It Is well known Fred Johnson, the . local attorney who has burst Into national prominence as the western leader of the "A1 Smith for President" boom, is dally gaining favor as an object of publicity. She did not Invite Labrum or Stenacker, and, presumably therefor, the arrival of these two with Dahlqulit must have been in the nature of n surprise to her. From the variation lu the testimony of these two witnesses therefor, it is difficult to understand why, if the three commissioners were to be "framed, only one of them waa naked to call at the scene of the frame up", when the stage waa all set for n triple frame up with three women present to take part la the framing. From testimony previously adduced, it waa established that neither Stenacker nor Labrum had ever been to the Caratenaen home before, hence it cannot be reasonably assumed that Mrs. Carstenaen had an yreaaoa to think the three commissioners would call at her home in response to aa Invitation. Issued to only one of them. Upon further cross examination by Mr. McCarthy, Carbls claimed to have paid n visit to the Parker home oa J street about the middle of September, after hla return from Portland. He claimed that ou this visit he found Mr. and Mrs. Parker, two children and Mr. Parkers mother at the J street address, and exhibited considerable surprise when asked by Mr. McCarthy "Dont you know that the Parkers moved away from J street about the middle of August, wMle you were ia Portland, and that they have not lived there sincel" Wednesday being Columbus day, Judge Wight adjourned court Tuesday evening until Thursday morning, when It was expected Mr. Dahlqulst would resume the stand to Sale Me cross: xsmlnatlon.
