Show The Ute Bulletin 18th Annual k Tournament of Tribal Champions The royal blue and orange clad Ute Chiefs and Utes will host the 1973 Tournament of Tribal Champions March 23-3-1 in the new Uintah Basin Community Build- ing at Fort Duchesne. According to Rex LaRose, Tournament Director, this years tournament promises to be the biggest and best ever. He said all teams receiving invitations will have had to finish in the top four teams in a tournament, or first or second in an eight-teatournament, or show they have played against first rate competition in their regular league Invitations have been extended to several qualified teams. The Phoenix Bucks led by Pete Homer, Jr., and Frank McGowan and the Morgan Lakers, an outstanding team from Farmington, N. Mex., have been invited. The defending Champions from Ethete, from Provo will Wyo. and the runner-up- s receive invitations to return. Teams from as far away as Metlakatla, Alaska, and Cherokee, N. C. have indicated a dfcsire to participate this year. Invitations will be extended to other outstanding Indian teams from the Los Angeles area, north- March 28, 29, 30, 31, 1973 Uintah Basin Community Building Fort Duchesne, Utah 16-tea- m m ern California, Washington, Idaho, Mon- tana, North and South Dakota. California, and the perennial crowd favorites from Ignacio, Colo., and Fort Washakie, Wyo. The recreation staff and community volunteers will coordinate the tournament and will comprise the four main committees: Accommodations, which will include housing, meals and concessions; Activities, which will be responsible for public- e entertainment ity, programs, and pow wow; Selections, which will screen the applicants and extend invitations; and the Officials, which will schedule the times, scorers, referees, and arrange for ticket sales and ushers. Mr. LaRose stated, "Another invitation to those interested in helping plan, organize, and carry out this years tournament is extended to you. He added, "If you have any suggestions regarding any of the above, please volunteer your services by calling me or contacting any of the recreation staff.
