Show 5 OCTOBER . i . Want to think of something funny? Read on. Plans are made to sponsor a blood drive for the Gay Community, donations to be to any and all of the facilities set up to take blood from us. Red Cross, the hospitals can all do this and there is a desparate need for tood transfusions and open heart surgery. All this is serious and not to be taken lightly. The funny part comes when the media gets hold of this (and ' you can be sure they will), and some considers all that gay blopd coursing through the veins of sor ie superstraight soul. Cant - you conjur up the flap which will ensue? It takes one back to the discussions going on, on a very local level, when Negro blood was not considered fit for transfusion into the veins of one of the local church groups. Gay blood is surely as tained, and unfit. So; as I see it; there will be campaigns for labels on bottles pf blood, Gay Blood; Straight Blood, Lesbian Blood, .Gay, Black Bipod, Gajr White Blood....the list is endless. ; Weve fteen serious top long, and the Valley has been spared their moment of mirth and the time is ripe to liven things up a little. So it remains up to us to stip the pot a bit, and roll, up our sleeve for a cause. Call your hospital, or Red Cross and make an appointment, and be sure to state the name of your favorite organization in whose n ime you make your donation of blood. You can list your favorite, MCC, Open Door , GSU, Gay Coaltion, or make up an organization if you like, as long as it has the word GAY in it, so they get the message. This whole thing boggles the mind, it could make national press coverage, and it is ? very positive things for all of us to do. donors will help ethers, but more important, we will be helping ourselves, and our cause. Thanks in advance for doing a very wonderful thing. i -- ; . Time marches on, and Orange Juice Anita has been to town, sung her song, and departed. The protest march was held as planned, without incident and violence which is most commendable. All went smoothly, with rare exception. Again the Gay Community was covered by the media, positive and negative, but this additonal exposure does much to state in undeniable terms what gays are here in Zion in great numbers. This is for our good. What next, you aks? For openers, we have political elections coming up soon. Candidates have filed for office, running scared or confident remains to be seen. Once again, the Gay Community can have their voices heard, this time quietly, but with an impetus which will make everyone stand up and take notice What we have to do is listen of us, if we play our cards correctly. to the candidates to learn how they feel towards the Gay Community, if they are aware we exir will they listen to us, are they sympathetic will they be cognizant of our nr to our cause? We dont expect tht,.., ) be gay but the least they can do for our support, is to e sympathetic to us. Then we vote, for or against. With our numtors, if the gays cf this community vote as a body, this vote will have a very formidable bearing on the outcome of the vote. Gays number over 60,000 and no one wilt deny the impact we hold. If you are of legal age, resident for the required time at your present address, you can vote. It is our duty and responsibility to elect or reject public officials. Primary election is held in September, general election is in November. TheRocky Mountain Open Door hopes to carry statements from many of the candidates, that the gay community can better know how they will be represented. Meanwhile, register that you can vote, and sharpen your pencil, so when election day comes, we can function as the citizens we are. We have complained of human rights being denied Gays... well, the privilege to vote still has not been denied us. Exercise this right. 1 . (continued from page one) .
