Pay Scale Set For City Judges The City Commission set the salary of Salt Lake City judges at 90 percent of what district judges earn. The judges, who receive $22,080 a year, had expressed concern about whether they were on a city salary structure or a parity system with state judges. The change makes no difference in the amount now paid city judges. The judges, however have complained to city commissioners that their budgeting procedures are at the mercy of Jennings Phillips Jr., Finance Commissioner. Phillips said this week the change in salary structure is no way decreases his authority over expenditures in the city judicial branch. Temple, has criticized distortions in the interpretation of a law requiring safety packaging for certain drugs and household chemicals. Dr. Temple is director of the Us Intermountain Regional Poison Control Center. He cited a recent article in Readers Digest reporting a death allegedly caused by safety packaging that prevented access to nitroglycerin, a medication used in heart attack treatment. Dr. Temple called the article and malicious and misleading, said Federal law prohibits safety packaging of nitroglycerin. Several other drugs are also exempted from the safety packaging rquirement.
