Rodney Dahl aeronautical planning engineer for the Department of Transportation said Utah will need to up grade and expand many of its 55 airports and may need to build as many as 10 additional airports in the next 25 years. Utah Deer hunters were warned this week that it is a federal crime to hunt in national parks or monuments. Rangers will patrol Zion National Park near Springdale with aircraft and ground checks. Zion Superintendent Robert Heyden said hunters cannot set up base camps outside the parks and then hunt with the parks. Mayor Harrison announced the latest blow to downtown redevelopment plans saying that the Salt Lake Redevelopment Agency will probably call for new proposals after making a study of possible uses for the land. A project started last year in Salt Lake area where senior citi- zens attended high school will be expanded to the entire state this year. On Oct. 22 senior high school students will greet persons over 70 years old eat lunch with them and attend classes together. Students for all high schools in the state will visit nursing homes and private residencies and invite those over 70 to attend school with them. Students are encouraged to bring their grandparents. Utah Senior Senator Frank E. Moss said this week we think this western part of the Green River Basin (meaning the Coalville area) is the coming oil and gas area of North America. Moss toured the new Pineview oil fields east of Coalville. Two well have been completed and are pumping oil which is being trucked to Salt Lake City Reserves in the area of the 24,000 acres are estimated at one to three million barrels per well and the field has the potential for about 25 wells. |
