Benedicts Hospital Alcohol and Chemical Dependency Treatment Center (ACT), offers new hope for the alcoholic breadwinner or housewife who cannot leave the responsibilities of job or family. It is an outpatient program designed to aid alcoholics and other chemically-dependepersons without disrupting their y activities. J. Jeffrey Simpson, Addiction Specialist and Director of ACT, said that patients may live at home, maintaining job and family duties while participating in the program on an outpatient basis. The new program enlarges the scope of ACT, which opened at St. Benedicts Hospital in February 1973 and has been the only hospital-base- d program of ist kind between Denver and San Francisco. Under the regular program patients have particiy living-i- n pated on a follow-u- p basis with a two-yeThis which period. program has achieved sobriety in 85 of the patients completing the program will continue. The program is staffed with qualified alcohol treatment personnel who provide various treatment modalities. These include dependency evaluation, a series of lectures on various aspects of alcoholism, group therapy sessions, family counseling, counseling, required reading and participation in Alcoholics Anonymous. Two general plans are offered which differ in the frequency of group therapy sessions and lecture series per week, Mr. Simpson noted. The follow-u- p aspect of both outpatient plans are the same, said Mr. Simpson. Each patients program is monitored and geared toward individual growth. If a'patient requires modalities on a followup basis these may be ordered. Rates for services vary with the choice of plan, as well as length of treatment time required and optional services which are prescribed for the patient. To enter the program, a pa ad-dition- ial Gerald tient must be referred by his personal physician, who continues to treat the individuals medical needs. (The purpose of the outpatient program is entirely confined to the treatment of chemical dependency, Mr. Simpson said. The program requires a significant commitment to therapy by both patient and his family, Mr. Simpson stressed. The use g of alcohol andor other chemicals is cause for expulsion from the program or may necessitate transfer to an inpatient status, he added. The new outpatient program, according to Mr. Simpson, provides new hops for the chemically-dependent breadwinner or housewife who cannot leave the responsibility of job or home to receive treatment on an inpatient basis. mood-alterin- Hansen Seeking Reelection as County Auditor R.
