Do you know why the planets sometimes seem to move backwards, why Venus is visible only in the evening or morning and why there not an eclipse each month? Do you have a telescope that is gathering dust because you have not yet figured out how to use it, or are not sure of what to look at? If so, the Hansen Planetarium would like to invite you to register for two introductory astronomy classes in May. Exploration of the Heavens" will enable you to identify the bright stars and constellations and to locate the planets and understand their motions. The class contains nearly all the information Boy Scouts need to know for their merit badge. All classes will be taught in the Star Chamber of the Planetarium, using the star projector to recreate the night sky as it appears from Salt Lake City or anywhere on earth at any time in the past, present or future. In addition, each student will receive a star chart and a rotating star finder and will learn how to use them so he can continue to learn the constllations. Amateur Astronomy is designed to increase your enjoyment in sky watching. This course is especially recommended for those who follow the sky with small telescopes and cameras and those thinking of purchasing telescopes.
