I Independent Dedicated To The Constitution, Liberty, Morality, and Truth Free men can vote themselves into slavery, but slaves cannot vote themselves free." J. Reese Hunter JOHN A DISAPPOINTMENT Dearly Beloved: (No, were not gathered here to witness the knot tying of a wedding) but for me to get a few things off my chest . . . oh, well...) John Ashbrook, U. S. Congressman from Ohio, is one man who has Nixon's number, or so I thought. You remember that Ashbrook announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination late last year. At that time he pointed out just a few of Richard Nixon's broken promises with some comments of his own. For instance, John Ashbrook said, ...I voted for Nixon in 1968 on the basis of WHAT HE SAID. Then he proceeds to lay out for all to see, the exact pattern and points of stress...the when and how, Nixon broke what promise. As Ashbrook, a man who knew, spelled it out: 1. WELFARE-Candid- ate Nixons quotes: One of the reasons I do not accept...a guaranteed annual income... And right about here is when President Nixon broke Candidate Nixon's promise on WELFARE. In August 1969, the President introduced the Family Assistance Plan, a guaranteed annual income which would begin welfare payments to an ADDITIONAL 12 to IS million Americans... 2. DEFENSE-(Candid- ate Nixons quotes): ...I intend to restore our objective of clear-cu- t military superiority... President Nixon, in his FIRST press conference; three months after the speech above, repudiated the word and concept of Superiority as the aim of his policy. He cut back the program as being provocative to the Soviets and by 72 the U.S. had dropped behind the Soviet Union in every phase of strategic power. 3. JOB CORPS-Candid- ate Nixons quotes: ...an a of should be eliminated. It that example poverty program has been a failure. It sounds good but costs S10,000 a year to train a man for a job that may not even exist. President Nixons 1972 Budget asked $196 million for the Job Corps, an increase of more than $40 million. 4. FEDERAL SPENDING-Candid- ate Nixons quotes: federal ...In every year since 1961, the government has spent more than it has taken in." Action by President Nixon...the first three budgets planned wholly by the Nixon Administration are expected to show a cumulative deficit of $70 billion more than the total deficit of eight -- right-on-the-butt- on mm North Vietnam. All the above was taken from what Congressman Ashbrook proved about Nixon...and we all know there is lots more. The thing that is impossible for me to believe is: In the face of all this, John Ashbrook says he will reluctantly vote for Nixon....naturally neither he nor any sane person can vote for McGovern (thats part of the plan), but why cannot Ashbrook and all who care about America, cast their votes for American Party Candidate, John Schmitz? Not only does Schmitz stand on the platform of America First, as Ashbrook and others do, he has the brains and the means of bringing a cabinet of outstanding men about him who will work FOR America and not for Communism. You know they are here and I know it. If we are FOR the same things lets vote for a President who is. I am ashamed of you, John Ashbrook. -- anti-missi- le Kennedy-Johnso- n budgets. 5. REr CHINA -- Candidate Nixons quotes: ...I would not recognize Red China now,and I would not agree to admitting it to the UN and I wouldnt go along with those people who say Trade with them because it may change them. Presidential action on the above.. .In the course of 97 , the President (1) relaxed trade restrictions with Red China; (2) endorsed Red Chinas entry into the UN, and (3) announced a visit to Peking without consulting or even informing our Asian well-intention- ed 1 1 Allies. 6. TRADE WITH COMMUNIST COUNTRIES-Candid- ate Nixons quotes: The Communist Bloc Nations that are now trading with Hanoi.. .should not be provided any credits by the U.S. or anything that could be classified as aid if they persist in trading or aiding the enemy in North Vietnam. Carroll Independent TOM ANDERSON Pigeon Forge, Tennessee 37863 Our Pravda has now endorsed Richard Nixon for a second term! (And after that, who knows?) To each his own. Its not that the leading Communist newspaper necessarily thinks Nixon is any that more than McGovern; its merely that Pravda pro-Marxi- st knows Richard Nixon can do it, and McGovern cant. Nixon can better bring about an accomodation with (surrender to) Communism than can because Nixon is McGovern, Conse rvat ive, Nixon has brought the United States of America further toward Communism, surrender, bankruptcy, than dictatorship and any President in history. Why would Pravda want to switch? Doesnt it strike you as strange that the Liberal news media, foreign and domestic, are now virtually all for the conservative Nixon? But anybody knowledgable enough to know where babies come from knows that the mass media lean so far left they are in danger of falling off the world. Q.E.D.: Nixon is not a conservative, and never has been. All his life he has arisen each morning and held a wet finger into the wind. Hes a computer, a Machiavelli, a chameleon in chameleons clothing. This could go on and on, but space is restricted, just as our lives will more and more be. But dont worry about a thing! Business, our leaders insist, is good. The stock market is near an e high; Billy Graham, Jacob all-tim- Javits, Mao-TseTun- g, Brezhnev, and John Wayne like Richard Nixon. So who are you to worry? Go back to sleep. Some people dont understand why practically all our pols, even peaceniks like McGovern, are for intervening on the side of Israel. The answer is simple: two-part- so-call- ed system has piggy. Democrat y become a piggy-bac- k operation in which it makes small difference which party is and Republican are now two names with one meaning. The closest thing to a Democrat at heart is a Republican in power. The news analysts and columnists call McGovern a liberal who may be soft on Communism. Thats like describing Raquel Welch as a flirt whos soft on virtue Calling Nixon a conservative should be a violation of the truth in packaging bill. The Democrats and Republicans differ mainly on how to socialize the country. They dont disagree on goals, but only on methods. For instance, both would save small-tow-n America by subsidizing needy industries, like IT&T, to open factories in cross-road- s communities. A friend of mine said he was going to get into that business himself and open factories to manufacture the front end of horses and ship them to Washington for final assembly. ' |
