We have been informed tliat this is the peoples program and we would like to inform you that it cannot be the peoples program when our county officials refuse to listen to the majority of the people. We have taken a house to house survey and presented a poll which read as follows: 318 against, 49 for, and 45 undecided. This was as honest a poll as ever could be taken and it looks to us that the COMMUNIST CAMPUS GROUPS Official FBI Testimony on Testimony of Campus Groups J. We might be poor in the area, but we are not stupid and we are not going to be brainwashed! Mr. Romney, the working people of Redwood-Chesterfiel- the d Redwood-Chesterfiel- area d did not know they lived in poverty until the CAP and the model cities programs came into our area. They paid directors up to twenty thousand dollars a year plus expenses to tell us we were poor. A few' months back you were on television and you gave the impression that you were an honest man, and if this is so then we suggest that you have a total investigation before any more federal funds are granted to Salt Lake County. Lee V. Giles, Chairman Redwood Citizens Committee 2559 So. Derby Salt Iake City, Utah National Research Group Financing the New Left In April of 1969, Mr. J. Edgar Hoover presented testimony before a United States House of Representatives subcommittee revealing the Communist affiliations and orientation, revolutionary objectives, and criminal tactics of a number of groups leading the wave of violence and protests at our universities. He testified also that the actions of many university administrators aided the rioters and aggravated the problem because they appeared unable to distinguish between legitimate protest and unlawful acts. At the October, 1969 general conference of the LDS Church, Elder Ezra Taft Benson warned us that the Communists had ordered the NewLeft to close down 100 universities in 1970. Acting according to the Communist directive, these revolutionaries have exceeded their goal. The New Left has also received money from several foundations. A very prominent foundation in New York, for example, has contributed more than a quarter of a million dollars from 1961 to 1968 to various individuals and groups, most of which have been identified as either present or past members or sympathizers of the Communist Party U.S.A. or New Left movement. Communist Party-U.S.leaders have recently urged party members to give time and money to New Left demonstrations and causes. Much of the nationwide travel engaged in by prominent New Left leaders is paid for by honorariums paia to them, generally out of student funds, for their guest speaker appearances on college campuses. A. STUDENTS FOR A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY (SDS) At the core of the New Left movement in the United States is the Students for a Democratic Society, an organization which became well known in 1968 for its disruptive tactics at a number of universities in this country, the main one being Columbia University in New York City. And if the leaders of the Students for a Democratic Society have their way, they will attempt to create chaos on many more campuses. Their desire is to let the Columbia Spirit prevail. Through it a comparative handful of revolutionaries have displayed total disregard ror the rights and privileges of the overwhelming majority of millions of dedicated and responsible college students. The Students for a Democratic Society will continue to be at the forefront of the organizations making up the New Left movement in taking every opportunity to foment discord among the youth of this country.
