Show November 24, 1967 THE EUREKA (UTAH) REPORTER Page Four Prison inmates tell of problems which led to eventual imprisonment It is very hard to climb back up that ladder to a normal life, once you have gone to prison. Parents, listen to and you your childs problems, communito how youth learn cate with your children. Learn to your parents, and to parents, you learn to talk to your children. Thus, was the advice given by three inmates from the Utah State Prison to students of Tin-ti- c wigh School and the upper aselementary grades in an sembly held on Monday. As part of a program to orient the youth throughout the state of danger signs and problems that lead to juvenile deevlinquency, and perhaps to entual imprisonment, similar assemblies have been given by inmates throughout Utah. serGayln Blackhurst, inmate vices coordinator, introduced the inmates' program. He said, At first we designed the program from a delinquent-typ- e group, but we found out the program had something of benefit for all types of students. We do not want to scare you about prison, because there probably is no one in the audience who will go to prison." The first inmate, however, was not so comforting because be was certain he knew at least two or three people from Eureka who were at the state prison." His comments were trouble does not always occur to someone else. The stories for each of the speakers' started in the elementary grades. The steps of trouble led from taking something that did not belong to him; the next was lying, and the next was sidestepping responsibility. One of the inmates said, I blamed everyone for my own faults and weaknesses my parents, relatives, brothers, teachers everyone but myself. I did not face up to any responsibilities, and even at the prison, I blamed all the guards for my being there." tft Hrevitiei . . . Mrs. Conover was returning to her home, after spending several weeks in Anchorage, Alaska, with her two sons and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Conover and Mr. and Mrs. Don Mrs. The advice given by all was to listen to people and to look at oneself, find goals, take responsibilities, and to communicate with parents and teachers about problems. May I borrow money on this policy? Answer In a word, YES. Here's the story: You should contact the VA office to which you have beeen sending your GI Insurance premium to find out the cash value of your policy. Through this same office you can then arrange to borrow up to 94 percent of the cash value of your GI insurance policy. The interest charge on this loan will be four percnt. Of course if there is already a loan on the policy for a lesser amount, you may borrow only the difference between the amount of this unpaid loan and the 94 percent cash value of your policy. The unpaid amount of a loan could be deducted from proceeds to a beneficiary. Question My son was lost at sea during World War H.
